NO. 001-2014
TO: Mayor Jean Rosenfield and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, Village Manager

LETTER TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT: Removal of Right Turn (South Bound) Restriction — Collins Avenue and Harbour Way (West)
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
has agreed to remove the restriction of right turn on red south bound at Collins Avenue and Harbour Way west.
As you may know, the Village has received several resident complaints regarding the restriction of right turns on
red at this intersection. As a result, I asked Chief Mark Overton to assess the public safety need and impact, and to
discuss with FDOT whether the restriction of this traffic movement was necessary.
On February 10, 2014, Chief Overton met with representatives with FDOT to discuss the feasibility of removing this
restriction, and to explain its impacts on traffic flow and public safety efforts. Upon the conclusion of the meeting, it
was determined that the restriction could be lifted without any impact to the public safety. This change will facilitate
the movement of traffic into the Village's single family residential area.
FDOT's contractor responsible for the construction project on Collins Avenue will be directed to remove the
signage. We expect that the signage will be removed in short order.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
