OFFICE OF THE VILLAGE MANAGER
NO. 004-2014
TO: Mayor Jean Rosenfield and Members of the City Council
LETTER TO COUNCIL
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, Village Manager
DATE: March 24, 2014
SUBJECT: Bal Harbour Police Department — New Hours for Marine Patrol Unit
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you of a recent policing enhancement to our uniformed
patrol services. Commencing on Sunday, March 23, 2014, the Bal Harbour Police Department Marine Patrol Unit
began patrolling Village waterways forty (40) hours per week, predominantly Sundays through Wednesdays from S
am to 6pm. Additional hours of patrol will be determined by operational necessity, such as major holiday weekends
or other unique circumstances.
The main areas of patrol for the Marine Patrol Unit will be the stretch of beach from 96th Street to the jetty, as well
as the Indian Creek waterway behind the residential areas of the Village. The focus of patrol activities will be to
ensure that swim zones are not encroached upon by vessels, and that vessels are not endangering the quality of
life of residents and visitors.
This enhanced patrol will provide an additional layer of security for our residential community and visitors to our
public beaches. In addition it is another example the Department's commitment to community policing and
increased police visibility.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
