The Bal Harbour Village participates in the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) which is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. As a result, of the Village's participation in this program, the flood insurance premium rates for Village residents are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS. These goals are as follows: 1. Reduce flood damage to insurable property; 2. Strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP, and 3. Encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management. The Village is required to maintain certain activities throughout the year, in order to ensure participation in the program. One of the activities required is to prepare a report of the progress of the Village's projects included in the Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS), which is to be distributed to the public. Attached is a Floodplain Management Plan Progress Report, which provides the progress on 2013 recommendations. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
