OVERTON Chief of Police Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/12/15 Assist Other Agency 96Street & Kane Concourse Bridge Bay Harbour Island Police Dept. (NW corner) Narrative / Comments While conducting a check of the Bal Harbour Public Works Compound, a Bal Harbour police officer observed two suspicious males underneath the Kane Concourse Bridge by a construction site in the town of Bay Harbor Islands. The Bal Harbour officer notified the Bay Harbor Islands Police Department and provided an exact location and description of the males. Bal Harbour and Bay Harbor officers coordinated a tactical response and as they arrived in the area, one of the males fled running into the Town of Surfside. The male that fled, was apprehended within a few minutes by a Town of Surfside police officer. The subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of both males for possession of marijuana. The male that fled from the officers was also charged with one count of Resisting an Officer Without Violence. Date incident/Arrest ILocation 09/12/15 Marine Patrol Assistance ICW / West of Haulover Bridge Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Inter Coastal Waterways, the Bal Harbour Police Marine Patrol Unit observed two juveniles having difficulty navigating a paddle board against rough tidal currents. As the Bal Harbour Marine Patrol officers approached the juveniles, it was obvious that they were struggling as the juveniles had lost their paddles and thus their ability to direct the board. The Marine Patrol officers were able to safely navigate the police vessel towards the distressed juveniles and rescue them from the water. The juveniles were not injured and they did not require medical attention. The juveniles; who are residents of Bay Harbor Islands were subsequently released to their parents. Date Incident/Arrest Location 09/13/15 1 AOA/Miami Dade Fire Rescue 10185 Collins Avenue (Plaza) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police officers were summoned to 10185 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour Plaza, regarding several people trapped inside of an elevator. Bal Harbour Police and Miami Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived and determined that the malfunctioning elevator was on the 5`h floor. Fire Rescue personnel opened the elevator door thus freeing the individuals who safely exited the elevator. None of the persons trapped reported any injuries. OVERTON Chief of Police Date incident/Arrest Location 09/16/15 Domestic. Violence / Withheld / Juvenile Involved Simple Battery Arrest Narrative / Comments A mother and her 17 year old juvenile son (both Bal Harbour Residents) became involved in a heated argument regarding the son's refusal to attend school. The juvenile charged at the mother and began striking her. The mother sustained minor injuries consisting of cuts and scratches, but did not require medical treatment. The juvenile was arrested for domestic violence and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/16/15 Hazardous Condition I Harding Avenue and 96 Street Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour officer discovered a large bag on the roadway filled with concrete debris. Bal Harbour Public Works personnel quickly responded and removed the bag. Date Incident/Arrest Location 09/17/15 Disorderly Intoxication / Arrest 9700 Collins Avenue Niemen Marcus Narrative I Comments Store security called Bal Harbour police and advised they had a male inside the store who is possibly intoxicated and causing a disturbance. Prior to officers arriving, they were advised that the subject had fled the store. Based on the description provided by store security the subject was located by Bal Harbour police officers walking through the shops on the second floor. The subject exhibited indicators of being intoxicated possibly from consuming alcoholic beverages. A local and national computer check revealed that the subject had a lengthy criminal history; however he had no open warrants. The subject became belligerent, loud, and refused to comply with the orders of our police officers as they attempted to obtain public transportation for the subject to get him home safely. In addition, the subject attempted to strike the Bal Harbour Shops security officer as he attempted to issued him a trespass warning order. OVERTON Chief of Police Date incident/Arrest Location 09/17/15 Drone Incident 229 Bal Cross Drive Narrative / Comments A resident called the Bal Harbour Police Department to report that a drone had crashed into her rear yard by the pool. When officers arrived they found a small white drone equipped with a camera which sustained considerable and disabling damage. The camera did not have a secure digital memory card; therefore the video could not be reviewed. The officers conducted an area canvass but were unable to locate the drone operator. The drone was impounded and placed in the Bal Harbour Police Department evidence locker. Completed by: Captain M.
