Gonzalez, Village Manager Y�6� DATE: February 13, 2015 SUBJECT: Bal Harbour Police Department Weekly Report for the week of February 6 — February 12, 2015 The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the Bal Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of communication and transparency. Date Incident/Arrest Location 02/06/15 Village Gate South / 96 Street Side Narrative The residential gated community gate on Bal Bay Drive malfunctioned remaining half way open. Officers placed traffic cones, a detour sign and a police vehicle in order to alert drivers of the gate closure. The guard at the main gate was contacted and TEM repaired the gate by 1:00 P.M. on Saturday February 7m Date Incident/Arrest Location 02/07/15 Dolphin Cycling Challenge AlA (Collins Avenue) Narrative The Dolphin's Cycling Challenge Bike Charity Fund Raiser for UM Sylvester Cancer Center, traversed the village along Collins Avenue. The route traveled north on Collins from Miami Beach on the way to Palm Beach County. Bal Harbour officers were positioned at key intersections to facilitate both the cyclists and vehicular traffic. No incidents were reported of any kind. Date Incident Arrest Location 02/07/15 Arrest/Possession of Marijuana 10275 Collins Ave # 602 Under Harbour House Narrative Officers received information of a strong order of marijuana on the 61n floor of the Harbour House. Responding officers tracked the odor to apartment # 602. Contact was made with the tenant who admitted to smoking marijuana. Tenant voluntarily surrendered the remaining marijuana and paraphernalia. OVERTON 'S Chief of Police ` FLA Date Incident/Arrest Loci_ tion 02/08/15 Reckless Driving/Driving 9700 Block of Collins Avenue W/Sus ended License Narrative A subject was observed operating an un-registered dirt bike in a reckless manner south on Collins Avenue and was detained. A records check on the driver revealed the subject's driver's license was suspended for Willfully Fleeing a Police Officer. The subject was arrested and transported for booking. Date Incident/Arrest Location 02/10/2015 IRS Scam 10155 Collins Avenue #101 Narrative The complainant received a telephone call insisting that she owed the IRS, $2000.00. The complainant became suspicious of the call and contacted her accountant, who informed her that the call was an on -going scam to gain personal information from potential victims. Date Incident/Arrest Location 02/09-10/2015 Theft Over Arrests Sal Harbour Shops Narrative Within February 09`h and 10`h Sal Harbour Police officers arrested two individuals within the shops. Both individuals were observed as they removed items from two different stores and were detained. The subjects were arrested and transported to jail. The total amount of the thefts was $3740.00 Date Incident/Arrest Location 02/06-12/2015 Traffic Detail 96 Street and Harding Avenue Narrative As a result of citizen concerns, officers continued to monitor the intersection for vehicles improperly continuing south on Harding Avenue from the right lane on Collins Avenue and for vehicles yielding to pedestrians on the 96 Street crosswalk.
