February 13 — February 19, 2015
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the Bal
Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of communication and
transparency.

Narrative
Bal Harbour Police received a call to 138 Park Drive regarding a strong odor of gas. Officers confirmed
the presence of the gas odor and Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded to assist. TECO Gas Company
responded, located and repaired the leak. No residents were impacted by the gas leak.

Neighbor Dispute 15-0674 Bal Harbor Village
Narrative
Bal Harbour police officers responded to a residence located on Bal Four Drive, regarding a neighbor
dispute over the trimming and removal of tree hedges. Officers spoke with both parties who mutually
agreed to delay the removal of the hedges until the next business day in order to confirm whose
property the hedges are located on. One neighbor alleged the other threatened to kill him, officers
were unable to confirm the threat. A police report was written documenting the incident.
Officers responded to the aforementioned residence on the morning of 2/15/15 regarding the same
issue. Both neighbors entered into a written agreement to allow the hedges to remain as long as they
are trimmed and maintained.

Narrative
Ecuadorian tourist arrived at the Bal Harbour Shops for dinner after shopping at the Aventura Mall.
When the tourist returned to their vehicle which, was parked in the south lot near Saks Fifth Avenue,
they noticed the rear passenger window was smashed. A shopping bag containing an Apple Computer,
I phone 6 and other miscellaneous items were removed from the vehicle. This is a county wide trend
in which Apple store shoppers are being targeted.

Misdemeanor Marijuana Arrest

Narrative
During the traffic enforcement detail, a motorist committed a traffic infraction, when the officer
approached the vehicle, he detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver
admitted to recently smoking marijuana and voluntarily surrendered the remaining marijuana and
paraphernalia to the officers. The driver was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear in court.

Narrative
Bal Harbour Police received an anonymous call reference three females with two dogs who had
climbed over the fence near the 9800 block into the gated community. Officers met with the females
who were accompanied by three other persons near the area of 80 Park Drive. The individuals were
non-residents and stated they were from an adult walk/run scavenger hunt group. After being
advised that they were not permitted to engage in this type of activity within this community, they
apologized and quickly exited the village.

Suspicious Person
10225 Collins Avenue
Security personnel at the location requested police upon observing a male wondering the property.
Police officers made contact with the male who stated that he was looking for the apartment of a
friend, when he became lost and his cellphone was inoperative. Further inquiry revealed that the
friend's apartment was located at 10230 Collins Avenue. A records check of the individual did not
reveal any outstanding wants or warrants. Therefore, he was released after his information and
actions were documented on a miscellaneous incident report.
