The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at
8 P. M. in the Council Room and was attended by Chairman of
Council Meddin, who presided, Councilmen Brown, Hosti, Lovell,
Town Attorney Solms, Mr. J. W. Lang, Chief McCutchen, Supt. Reed,
Mr. L. V. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor petitioned for a larger water main on 6th
Avenue,,f±om 12th to 13th Streets, contending that the present
3/4U main is now serving six houses and is too small. Mr. and
Mrs. Taylor were excused. Mr. Reed stated that a larger line
could be run from 13th Street, Councilman Lovell instructed
him to check it.
A petition was presented .by Tidewater Enterprises, Inc.
thru Mr. L. V. Davis for permission to operate a Trailer Park on
his property, at the N. E. corner of 15th Street and let Avenue,
Mr. Davis was excused, the matter was referred to the Town Attor-
ney and the Sanitary Committee.
Chief McCutchen informed Council that Officer T. E. Fitz-
gibbon had resigned from the Police Department and that he had
two applications for the position, one from Mr. Ben Hoovler and
the other from Mr. Wiley Entrekin, both have had police work, re-
ferred'to the Police Committee. Chief McCutchen also stated that
the Miller Parking Meter will not work efficiently on the ocean
front, the locks have corroded already, they have been giving
good service along Butler Avenue, he stated that the motorcycle
was giving trouble and suggested that it be traded in on a new
car, Councilman Brown asked if the Town needed a motorcycle,
Chief McCutchen stated that it was not practicel,on Tybee streets,
Councilman Meddin instructed him to take it in to Cleary Motor-
cycle Company and get an estimate on cost of repairing.
Supt. Reed reported that some of the groins are in very
bad shape and need to be repaired now as the beach has lowered
considerably due to the recent N. E. winds, he suggested that
one of the old batteries at Ft. Screven be acquired and that it
be blown up to get ballast for the beach, Councilman Meddin
appointed a Committee consisting of Councilman Strong, Lovell,
Brown and Supt. Reed to confer with Mr. Hutton of Thomas and
Hutton.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for the
month of July for General Government amounting to 0647.22
be paid, likewise bills for the Water Department amounting to
X1692.79 be paid.
Councilman Brown discussing licenses said that most of
the licenses had been paid but that several were protesting,
D. A. McCutchen operating Betty's Diner protested against pay -
ing 1953 beer license contending he sold beer a very short time,
also a protest from the Surf Club by Herman Diamond. It was mov-
ed, seconded and passed that the License Committee be authorized
to handle the matter and work out a solution.
