AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 65 -170 OF THE
CITY OF TEMPLE CITY BY ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING CODE AS CONTAINED IN
THE 1968 EDITION OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING
LAWS AND PUBLISHED BY THE BUILDING NEWS, INC., AND
INCLUDING CHAPTERS 68, 69, 98 AND 99 INCLUDED IN THE
SUPPLEMENT TO THE SAID LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING
CODE FOR AND INSTEAD OF THE PRESENT BUILDING CODE
AND MAKING OTHER AMENDMENTS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 65 -170 entitled "Building Code" adopt-
ed August 17, 1965, is hereby amended by adopting by reference, except as
hereinafter provided, that certain Building Code known and designated as
the Los Angeles County Building Code as contained in the 1968;Edition of
the Los Angeles County Building Laws and published by Building News, Inc.,
and including Chapters 68, 69, 98 and 99 included in the supplement to the
said Los Angeles County Building Code and such code shall be and become
the Building Code of the City of Temple City, regulating the erection,
construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving, removal, demolition,
conversion, occupancy, use, height, area, maintenance of all structures
and certain equipment therein specifically regulated and grading within
the City of Temple City, and providing for the issuance of permits and
the collection of fees therefor, providing penalties for violation of
such code, declaring and establishing fire zones.
Three copies of said Los Angeles County Building Laws have
been deposited in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Temple City,
and shall be at all times maintained by said Clerk for use and examination
by the public.
Said edition of the Los Angeles County Building Code, except
as provided hereinafter, is hereby substituted for, and shall take the
place of, the Building Code set forth in said Ordinance No. 65 -170, and
such amending ordinances previously adopted.
SECTION 2. Whenever any of the following names or terms are
used in said Los Angeles County Building Code, each such name or term
shall be deemed and construed to have the meaning ascribed to it in this
section as follows:
"Board of Appeals" shall mean the Board of Appeals established by
Section 206 of said Los Angeles County Building Code.
"Building Department" shall mean the "Building and Safety Division"
of the Department of County Engineer.
"Building Official" shall mean County Engineer of the County of
Los Angeles.
"City" shall mean the City of Temple City except in Section 103
of said Building Code.
"County ", "County of Los Angeles" or "unincorporated territory
of the County of Los Angeles" shall mean the City of Temple City.
"General Fund" shall mean the City Treasury of the City of Temple
City.
"Health Officer" shall mean the Health°-0fficer of the City of
Temple City.
"Ordinance No. 7583, an ordinance adopting a Health Code" shall
mean Ordinance No. 68 -264 of the City of Temple City.
"Special Inspector' :' shall mean a person holding a valid Certifi-
cate of Registration issued by the County of Los Angeles as set
forth in Section 305 (b) of said Los Angeles County Building Code.
SECTION 3. Section 9906 of said Los Angeles County Building
Code is amended to read:
"SECTION 9906. Building Rehabilitation Appeals Board. In order
to hear appeals provided for in Chapter 99 regarding substandard
buildings and substandard property, there shall be and is hereby
created a Building Rehabilitation Appeals Board consisting of
five members who are qualified to pass on matters pertaining to
substandard buildings. The members of the Board shall be appoint-
ed by the City Council of the City of Temple City and shall hold
office at the pleasure of the City Council and may recommend such
new legislation as deemed necessary. The Board shall adopt reason-
able rules and regulations for conducting its investigations. The
County Engineer shall be an ex officio non - voting member and act
as secretary. He shall keep a record of all proceedings and notify
all parties concerned of the finding and decisions of the Board."
SECTION 4. Section 208 of the Building Code of the City of
Temple City shall read as follows:
"SECTION 208 (a). Compliance with Code. A person shall not erect,
construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert,
demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building or structure
or perform any grading in the City, or cause the same to be done,
contrary to, or in violation of any of the provisions of this Code.
(b). Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Code shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and each such person shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense
for each and every day or portion thereof during which any violation
of any of the provisions of this Code is committed, continued or
permitted, and upon conviction of any such violation such person
shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $500., or by im-
prisonment for not more than six months, or by both such fine and
imprisonment."
SECTION 5. Said Los Angeles County Building Code is amended
by deleting Section 307 therefrom.
SECTION 6. Said Los Angeles Building Code is amended by
rewriting Table 3 -A to read as follows:

City, held on the 18th day of June, 1968, and was duly passed, approved,
and adopted by said Council, approved and signed by the Mayor and
attested by the City Clerk at a regular meeting of the said City Council
held on the 16th day of July , 1968, by the following vote:
