HomeMy Public PortalAbout19530923CCMeeting4 Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. September 23, 1953 The regular meeting of Town Council was held -today at 4 P. M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton,. who presided, Councilmen Peters, Brown, Hosti, Lovell, Meddin, Lt. Durden, Supt. Reed and Mr. J. W. Lang. The minutes of the meetings of July 15th, August 12th, and August 31st were read and adopted. It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for General Government for the month of August, amounting to 32,616.50 be paid and bills for the Water Department amounting to 31,590.91 be paid. Supt. Reed stated that more material was needed to finish repairing the machine shop amounting to approximately 0300.00, Councilman Meddin suggested using some salvage material and in- structed Mr. Reed to make inquiries and confer with Mr. Strong. Supt. Reed stated that some damage had been done to the beach front caused by the unusually high spring tides and N. E. winds, he was instructed by the Mayor to barricade both parking lots so that the public could not use them in their present con- dition. Councilman Lovell quoted prices for Greenheart lumber for use on a 100 I jetty of 32,367.00 F. 0. B. shipside, the price for creosoted pine was 32,221.00. The Mayor called attention to the convention of the Georgia Municipal Association to be held at St. Simons on October 7th, Sth and 9th. It was moved, seconded and passed that the Cost of the expenses of those going to attend the convention be defrayed by the Town. A petition was presented from Morton Frierson requesting that the mechanism of the blinker light at Butler Avenue and let Street be adjusted so that it will not disturb the operation of radios and T V sets in that area. It was agreed that it will be oorreeted. The Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company requested that the telephone booth now on the outside porch of the Town Hall be removed back to its original location inside the building. The request was denied. It was moved, seconded and passed that the future meetings of Town Council be held at 4 P. M. on the second Wednesday of each month. Mrs., Sue Cook, and Mr. Harry Diamond wanted to know when 1 the grass plat in front of their property on Butler Avenue was going to be opened. Referred to Councilman Strong. Attention was called to the bad condition of the storm sewer that empt0 into Tybee Inlet on Inlet Avenue, in its present condition it is dangerous and is not serving the full purpose for which it was intended.
