OVERT Chief of Police '��\ Noteworthy Incidents ti The incidents listed below are included in the above totals - However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest Location 05/03/15 Suspicious Male/Missing Person 9930 Collins Avenue (Bal Harbour Apts.) Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour officer was flagged down by a resident at 9930 Collins Avenue. The resident told the officer a male was sleeping behind the hedges on the southwest corner of the complex. Bal Harbour officers responded immediately and located the male. Once he was awakened by the officers, he was able to provide the officers on scene with his name. He told the officers that he was not feeling well and he had not taken his required medication in days. The Bal Harbour officer conducted a history check and discovered the male was reported missing by the Hollywood Police Department. The investigation revealed the male suffers from mental illness and had walked away from his residential facility in Hollywood on April 30, 2015. The male was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Crisis Unit for an Involuntary Psychiatric Examination. The Bal Harbour Police Department contacted the Hollywood Police Department as well as the facility where the male resides and advised both parties that he had been located. A police report was completed and submitted documenting the actions of the Bal Harbour police officers. Date incident/Arrest Location 05/03/015 Possession of Marijuana Arrest 10200 Collins Avenue (North Lot) Narrative / Comments While patrolling the North Municipal Lot, a Bal Harbour police officer detected a strong order of marijuana emanating from the area. The officer observed a male subject sitting in a vehicle smoking marijuana. When the subject noticed the officer approaching his vehicle, he dropped the marijuana cigarette in the interior compartment of his vehicle. The subject and passenger were detained and with the assistance of the Bal Harbour Police Department canine officer and his partner A is, the marijuana was recovered inside the subject's vehicle. The driver/subject was arrested. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/03/15 Loitering and Prowling Arrest 9903 Collins Avenue(Bal Harbour Collins Apts.) Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Police Department received a call from a resident at the Bal Harbour Collins Apartments regarding a suspicious male changing his clothes inside the apartment complex. The tenant informed the Bal Harbour police dispatcher that the unknown male was neither a tenant nor a guest of any residents in the complex. The tenant also told the dispatcher that the male was observed on the property earlier. Bal Harbour police officers responded immediately and located the male walking south on Collins Avenue approaching the 9800 block. When the officers encountered the male, he immediately became uncooperative and refused to answer any preliminary investigatory questions. The male was placed under arrest and charged with Loitering or Prowling. OVERTON Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/06/15 Theft Over 9703 Collins Avenue St. Regis Hotel Narrative / Comments A guest of the St. Regis Hotel called the Bal Harbour Police Department and reported a theft of his Dewitt White and Yellow Gold Watch valued at $220,000. The victim advised that he left the watch on top of the dresser located in his room at approximately 12:00 PM. Upon returning to his room at 7:00 PM, he discovered his watch was missing. The primary officer conducted a preliminary investigation gathering pertinent information, such as personnel who accessed the room and requested video surveillance footage from the hallways and elevator. The case was assigned to Detective Gonzalez for further investigation, Date incident/Arrest Location 05/07/15 Theft Over 9700 Collins Avenue Bal Harbour Shops, Versace Clothing Store Narrative / Comments A Versace store employee called the Bal Harbour Police Department and reported a theft of two handbags that had just occurred. Bal Harbour Police Department dispatchers obtained the subjects description and immediately issued a Be -On -the -Look -Out (BOLO) bulletin for the suspects. One of the suspects was observed by a Bal Harbour Department police officer fleeing south toward the Town of Surfside. Bal Harbour Village and Surfside police officers conducted a search for the suspect; however despite their efforts the suspect was not located. Information was later received that the suspect may have fled in an awaiting vehicle. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/07/15 Carrying Concealed Weapon 9700 Collins Avenue Disorder) Conduct/Resisting Arrest Bal Harbour Shops Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Shops security office called the Bal Harbour Police Department regarding a male trespassing and causing a disturbance on their property. The suspect was belligerent and screaming profanity towards the security officers attracting the attention of several customers of the shops. Upon the arrival of the police officer the suspect continued his behavior even after being ordered to calm down several times by the officer. The suspect was then arrested for Disorderly Conduct; the arrestee was searched by the officer and was found to be in possession of knife hidden in his waistband. OVER Chief of Police \\ Date incident/Arrest Location 05/07/15 Burglary / Theft Over 10201 Collins Avenue Oceana 10240 Collins Avenue Condos Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour police officer was advised of a suspect that had attempted to steal a bicycle from the Oceana Sales Center. The officer broadcasted a description of the suspect and began to search the area for the suspect. A second witness then advised the officers that a suspect matching the same description had just stolen a bicycle from the parking garage of 10240 Collins Avenue fleeing northbound over the Haulover Bridge. A Bal Harbour Police Department officer observed the suspect near the Haulover Marina and pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect was able to elude the officer and was lost in the area of the construction site. Police Officers from all neighboring agencies assisted in the search of the suspect, an officer of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department located the suspect near Collins Avenue and 165 Street. Further investigation into the matter revealed the suspect had cut the wire lock securing the victim's bicycle with a pair of bolt cutters. A search of the parking lot and grounds of 10240 Collins Avenue revealed a backpack with the bolt cutters hidden in the hedges. The suspect was positively identified by both witnesses and the pursuing officer. The bicycle was returned to the victim, who was unaware that the theft had occurred. The subject was arrested and charged with grand theft and resisting an officer without violence. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/07/15 Road Debris 9700 Collins Avenue Northbound Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police was notified of road debris in the northbound lanes of Collins Avenue. Upon arrival gravel and sand were observed towards the right shoulder approximately two from the curb. Bal Harbour Public Works responded with the street sweeper and removed the debris. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/07/15 Beacon Light Jetty / Beach Area 10295 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments While conducting a directed patrol, an officer discovered the Beacon Light at the end of the Jetty was out. Public Works was notified and repairs will be made as soon as possible. Completed by: Captain M.
