OVERTON Chief of Police Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the above totals - However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/15/15 Narcotics Arrest 10100 Block of Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments An officer conducted a traffic stop and upon approaching the vehicle detected a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The investigation resulted in the discovery of 2 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly. Date IIncident/Arrest Location 05/16/15 Assist Other Agency / Surfside 9500 Block of Byron Avenue Narrative / Comments While on a traffic stop at Harding and 96 Street, a Bal Harbour Village police officer was alerted by a CVS employee that a theft had just occurred in the store. The employee advised that the suspect was fleeing along Harding Avenue. OVERTON Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location Fraudulent use Credit Card / 9700 Collin Avenue 05/16/15 Resisting Arrest / Burglary Curtilage Salvatore Ferragamo Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Police Department received a call of a Fraud in progress at the Salvatore Ferragamo Store. The complainant advised the description of the subject who was attempting to make a purchase of $3,500.00 with a fraudulent credit card and Florida Driver's License. As the officers arrived at the store, the subject fled on foot west bound into the second floor parking garage. Bal Harbour officers pursued the offender on foot and requested back up. The offender jumped off the second floor of the parking garage, slid down a palm tree and ran across the parking lot. The subject scaled the west perimeter wall and fled into the Residential Community where the officer lost sight of the offender. A perimeter was quickly established with the assistance of Bay Harbor and Surfside police departments. In addition, Miami Dade Aviation and the Indian Creek Marine Patrol were requested to assist in the search for the offender who was now concealed and hiding in the residential area. As the search efforts began, a resident from 44 Bal Bay Drive called the Bal Harbour Village Police Department and advised that the subject was hiding in his yard and fled when confronted. The caller further advised that the subject dove into the inter -coastal waterway and swam westbound towards Bay Harbor Islands. The Indian Creek Police marine unit located the subject concealed by docked vessels on the Bay Harbor Islands' side of the inter -coastal waterway. Once apprehended, the suspect complained of feeling ill due to ingesting seawater during his failed attempt to flee from law enforcement. Miami -Dade Fire Rescue responded, treated the suspect and transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a precaution. Once at the hospital he was medically cleared by the attending physician and transported to jail. The subject had an extensive criminal record and is currently on federal probation for fraud related crimes. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/18/15 Traffic Arrest 10245 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a BHPD officer observed a vehicle driving in the wrong direction near 10245 Collins Avenue. The officer effectuated a traffic stop and discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended drivers' license. A background check revealed the driver had a criminal past for prostitution, aggravated battery and theft. The driver told the officer that she was visiting a friend at The Ritz Carlton and was lost. OVERTON Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/18/15 Distressed Boater 10200 Collins Avenue (Atlantic Ocean) Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Beach, an officer discovered a 22 foot vessel which had drifted beyond the buoys and became disabled. The officer made contact with the operator who advised the engines had failed and he could not control the boat from drifting. The Bal Harbour Police Department marine patrol vessel responded and provided assistance until a private salvage service arrived and removed the disabled vessel from the beach. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/19/15 Gas Leak 175 Camden Drive Narrative / Comments Officers were summoned to the area of 175 Camden Drive regarding a gas odor emanating in the area. Responding officers were able to determine the gas meter located to the rear of 175 Camden Drive was leaking. The area and surrounding homes were secured until the arrival of Miami -Dade Fire Rescue who disabled the gas meter. TECO Gas Company responded in order to make the necessary repairs to the meter. No injuries or damages were reported. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/19/15 Inoperable Lights North Municipal Lot Narrative / Comments While patrolling the North Municipal Parking Lot an officer discovered the security lights for the lot were inoperative. The Bal Harbour Village Public Works Department was notified for the repairs and officers increased patrols throughout the night. No incidents were reported as a result. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/21/15 Illegal Vendor 9701 Collins Avenue Beach Side Narrative / Comments Members of the St. Regis Hotel beach staff notified the police of an illegal vendor selling cosmetics along the beach. BHPD officers made contact with the individual and warned him of the ordinance violation. OVERTON Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/21/15 Suspicious Person 1000 block of Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments While patrolling the beach officers discovered an individual sleeping. The individual was cooperative and dispelled any suspicions as to his actions. After a background check was conducted the individual left the area without further incident. Completed by: Captain M.
