The Bal Harbour Police Department received a call of a Fraud in progress at the Salvatore Ferragamo
Store. The complainant advised the description of the subject who was attempting to make a purchase of
$3,500.00 with a fraudulent credit card and Florida Driver's License. As the officers arrived at the store,
the subject fled on foot west bound into the second floor parking garage. Bal Harbour officers pursued the
offender on foot and requested back up. The offender jumped off the second floor of the parking garage,
slid down a palm tree and ran across the parking lot. The subject scaled the west perimeter wall and fled
into the Residential Community where the officer lost sight of the offender. A perimeter was quickly
established with the assistance of Bay Harbor and Surfside police departments. In addition, Miami Dade
Aviation and the Indian Creek Marine Patrol were requested to assist in the search for the offender who
was now concealed and hiding in the residential area. As the search efforts began, a resident from 44 Bal
Bay Drive called the Bal Harbour Village Police Department and advised that the subject was hiding in his
yard and fled when confronted. The caller further advised that the subject dove into the inter -coastal
waterway and swam westbound towards Bay Harbor Islands. The Indian Creek Police marine unit located
the subject concealed by docked vessels on the Bay Harbor Islands' side of the inter -coastal waterway.
Once apprehended, the suspect complained of feeling ill due to ingesting seawater during his failed
attempt to flee from law enforcement. Miami -Dade Fire Rescue responded, treated the suspect and
transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a precaution. Once at the hospital he was medically
cleared by the attending physician and transported to jail. The subject had an extensive criminal record
