Date IncidentlArrest Location 06/0515 Theft / Bench Warrant Arrest Saks Fifth Avenue Narrative / Comments Saks Fifth Avenue security officers detained a juvenile female for shoplifting a pair of sunglasses. Bal Harbour police officers responded and the subsequent investigation revealed the female had an outstanding Juvenile Pick Up Order (arrest order) for Theft. The subject was charged accordingly, arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing. Date incident/Arrest Location 06/05/15 1 Narcotics / Bench Warrant Arrest 96 Street and Bal Bay Drive Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour officers observed a vehicle parked on the Pink Level parking area of the Bal Harbour Shops, occupied by several males. The officers detected a very strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and as they approached to investigate the vehicle drove away and exited onto 96 Street. A traffic stop was conducted and the subsequent investigation revealed that one of the occupants was in possession of a small clear plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana. A field test was conducted which revealed positive results for Cannabis. A criminal history check of the subject in question revealed an active Bench Warrant for his arrest and several suspensions on his driver license. The subject was arrested and taken to jail. OVERTO Chief of Police FLA 1 06/06/15 1 Graffiti / Damaged Property 1 108 Bal Bay Drive Narrative / Comments While on patrol a Bal Harbour police officer observed five juveniles ranging in age from 11 to 13 loitering by a construction site on Camden Drive. Simultaneously, the Bal Harbour Police Department received a call of juveniles who had just spray painted the street in front of 108 Bal Bay Drive. The juveniles advised the officers that they had found the spray paint can and took responsibility for the graffiti. Aside from the paint on the roadway, they spray painted a fire hydrant and the construction fence at 108 Bal Bay Drive. Officers took custody of all the juveniles and detained them until they could be released to their parents. The parents stated that he would pay for any and all damages. The Public Works Departement was contacted in order to have the paint removed. Date Incident/Arrest Location 06/06/15 Theft of a Wallet 655 96 Street Bal Harbour Park Narrative / Comments A juvenile placed his personal belongings on a park bench while he played basketball at the Village Park. Upon returning to retrieve his property he discovered that his wallet had been removed from the bench. A thorough check of the grounds did not locate the wallet. Officers were not able to locate a witness in this incident. Date incident/Arrest Location 06/07/15 Compliance Check Bal Harbour Jetty Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police Officer was conducting a mandatory check of the Jetty, during the check he requested the assistance of a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Officer regarding possible fishing violations. Together the officers conducted a compliance check for fishing permits, regulations and alcohol consumption violations. Chief of Police EP RTMENT \X, Date Incident/Arrest Location 06/07/15 Hit & Run Arrest 10245 Collins Avenue(Carlton Terrace) Narrative / Comments Carlton Terrace security personnel notified police of a Hit and Run with minor property damage to the building. Once the officers arrived at the location the security officer notified them that a vehicle struck the overhang of the building and the driver fled the scene. The security officer was able to provide a tag and vehicle description of the vehicle. BHPD officers broadcasted a B.O.L.O. (Be on the lookout) for the vehicle and tag to the surrounding police jurisdictions. Moments later, the Sunny Isle Beach Police Department located the vehicle and the subject in their jurisdiction. Bal Harbour police officers responded and arrested the driver for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. A search of the vehicle also discovered multiple bags containing high end merchandise and numerous credit cards in various names. The merchandise and credit cards were impounded. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau for further investigation. Date incident/Arrest Location 06/08/15 Traffic Stop 9700 Block Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour police officer conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles which were reported to be speeding/racing on Collins Avenue. The officer's investigation revealed that both drivers had a valid driver's license, insurance and proper registrations. There was no evidence that the vehilces had been actually racing. Therefore, both drivers were counseled on the 30 MPH speed limit in Bal Harbour Village. Date incident/Arrest Location 06/08/15 Gas Leak 10295 Collins Avenue Ritz Carlton Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour units responded to the Ritz Carlton Hotel in reference to a gas leak. Upon arrival the officers were advised that a construction crew had ruptured a gas pipe; however the leak was quickly sealed and no danger existed. The Miami Dade Fire Department responded and confirmed that the leak was safe and assumed control of the scene until the arrival of the gas company. Date incident/Arrest Location 06/10/15 Disturbance MTA Bus 10200 Block Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour police officer was flagged down by the driver of a transit bus regarding a disturbance inside. The two subjects identified by the driver as being involved, were asked to exit the bus at which time a field interview and criminal history check was conducted. The investigation revealed that the subjects had no open arrest warrants and that no crime had been committed on the bus. OVER Chief of Police Date incident/Arrest Location 06/11/15 Suspicious Incident Village Marina Area Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour Village gated community resident reported a suspicious male wearing a long black coat who was taking photos of homes and boats docked at the marina. The individual in question was escorted out of the village via the main gate by a resident who had been notified by the complainant. The complainant advised police that several residents have been reporting incidents of this nature and of persons soliciting for money inside the village. A security check was placed on the location and an operational awareness briefing email was sent to all police personnel. Kent security supervisors will be contacted and made aware this issue. This incident is under review by the police department's admistration to determine if the police communications section handled the call properly. Apparently, an error occurred that prevented a timely response by our officers. Completed by: Captain M.
