June 12, 2015 through June 18, 2015
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the Bal
Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of communication and
transparency.

Felony Retail Theft
9700 Collins Avenue Saks Fifth Avenue
Narrative / Comments
Bal Harbour police units responded to Saks' Fifth Avenue reference a juvenile male in custody for retail
theft. The investigation revealed the subject was apprehended by loss prevention officers after he tried to
steal a pair of sunglasses. Loss prevention officers advised the same juvenile had committed a theft at
their store the day before. A Bal Harbour police officer established a rapport with the juvenile who
admitted to the earlier theft and advised the property was hidden in his home. Officers responded to the
juvenile's home in Bay Harbour Island and made contact with his parents. The parents located the
property and turned the items over to our officers. All property was photographed as evidence and
returned to loss prevention officers. The juvenile was charged accordingly.

Suspicious Vessel
220 Bal Bay Drive on the
Inter Coastal Waterway
Narrative / Comments
The homeowner called police in reference to a boat which was anchored near her seawall. Bal Harbour
police officers responded and made contact with the three males on the boat. The investigation revealed
the subjects were fishing and the vessel had proper and current registration. The fisherman realized their
proximity to the homes may have caused a concern to the residents and relocated north to the Haulover
area.

Turtle Nests
10200 Block Beach Side
Narrative / Comments
A concerned citizen called the Bal Harbour Police Department and advised of a sea turtle that had just
nested on the beach. Responding police officers located the nest and placed traffic cones around the area
in order to protect it from beach goers and public works vehicles. Miami Dade Parks Turtle Rangers
responded in the morning and placed stick markers and caution tape around the nest site.
Note: The Turtle Rangers cover all of Miami Dade County beaches every morning during the nesti g
season in order to mark and document all sea turtle nests.

Missing Child
262 Bal Bay Drive
Narrative / Comments
Bal Harbour police received a call regarding a missing 13 year old at risk child. All on duty Bal
Harbour police officers responded and converged on the area. Two units covered both entry and
exit points of the gated community and the Bal Harbour Park; while the other two units responded
to the location where he was last seen. When the units arrived at the residence they were
advised the child wondered off but had just been located in the neighbor's yard. The child was
found to be in good condition and no foul play is suspected. Bal Harbour police officers along
with the on -duty sergeant met with both parents.

Vehicle Accident
10200 Block North Lot
Narrative / Comments
Officers responded to a vehicle accident at the North Municipal Lot. The investigation revealed a truck
entered the lot and attempted to conduct a turn -about to proceed southbound on Collins Avenue. The
truck entered a section which was clearly marked with Do Not Enter signs. In addition, the Box Truck
exceeded the maximum height restrictions and struck the drainage pipe supports attached to the bottom of
the bridge. The bracket sustained minor damage however; the bridge structure itself was not affected or
damaged. Public works supervisor Atkinson and a DOT supervisor responded to the scene. Photos were
taken of the damaged area. The driver of the truck was found at fault and cited accordingly.
