A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN
OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, REQUESTING JUSTICE
FROM THE PALM BEACH COUNTY COMMISSION WHEN AND
IF THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE ROAD PATROL STUDY
COMMITTEE ARE INSTITUTED; FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
AND OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, approximately 40% of the residents of Palm Beach
County live within the boundaries of one (1) of the thirty -seven
(37) municipalities of Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, 40% of the residents of Palm Beach County are now
paying for the type of police service recommended for the unincorpo-
rated parts of Palm Beach County through Town levied taxes; and
WHEREAS, it would be grossly unfair to ask 407 of the
residents of Palm Beach County to pay additional taxes to Palm Beach
County for this level of service for the residents of the unincorpo-
rated parts of Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream,
Florida, on behalf of its 1502 residents, feel that all residents
of Palm Beach County should have the level of police service for
which they are willing to pay; and
WHEREAS, the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream,
Florida, feels that it is appropriate to address this issue before
it appears on the tax bill of Town residents as County taxes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. All residents of Palm Beach County should be
given the level of police service for which they are willing to pay.
Section 2. All residents of the Town of Gulf Stream should
not be taxed in order to provide police service, comparable to the
service they receive, to the residents of the unincorporated sections
of Palm Beach County.
Section 3. The use of a municipal service taxing unit, or
a County utility tax for unincorporated areas only, or some other
form of taxation which shall be billed to residents outside the limits
of the thirty -seven (37) municipalities should be used to provide the
proposed level of police service.
Section 4. The Town Clerk is directed to send copies of
this resolution to each member of the Palm Beach County Commission.
Section 5. The Town Clerk is directed to send copies of
this Resolution to the Mayors of the 36 other municipalities in
Palm Beach County.
Section 6. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon adoption.
