SUBJECT: Bal Harbour Police Department Weekly Report for the week of
July 24, 2015 through July 30, 2015
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the Bal
Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of communication
and transparency.

Residential Fire

Narrative / Comments
A 911 call was received reference a small fire ignited inside the air conditioning unit in the garage
of the residence. The fire was extinguished prior to police and fire personnel arrival at the
residence. Miami Dade Fire Rescue inspected the home and determined the fire was completely
extinguished. FPL responded and disabled the power to the residence. The homeowner will
reside with relatives until repairs are completed and the power is restored to the residence. No
injuries of persons or structural damage to the residence was reported.

9700 Collins Avenue (Beach)
Narrative / Comments
During a routine beach check, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered a male asleep on the
beach. The officer conducted an inquiry to determine if the male was in need of medical
assistance. The male was in apparent good health and told the officer he was tired and fell asleep
on the beach. The male appeared to be homeless and was offered shelter assistance by the
officers. He declined to accept. The male did not have any open warrants or adverse criminal
history. The officers explained to the male that overnight sleeping is prohibited on the beach. The
male left the area without incident. Officers will continue to patrol the beach area during the
evening hours and ensure he does not return.

Narrative /Comments
A female was apprehended by Neiman Marcus loss prevention officers for attempting to make
purchases with a fraudulent Florida identification card. The female had also been added to a
customer account via fraudulent means. The female was arrested and transported to 'ail.

9056 Emerson in Surfside
Narrative / Comments
A Surfside police officer discovered several teens trespassing on a residence whose owners were
out of town. Upon observing the officer, several of the teens fled on foot. Bal Harbour police
officers responded to assist and located three of the teens hiding in the backyard of the
residence. The youths were turned over to the Town of Surfside police officers and eventually
released to their parents.

A Surfside police officer discovered an open gate to a construction site. Bal Harbour police
officers assisted with a perimeter while the site was cleared.

Damaged to a Residence
237 Bal Cross Drive
Narrative / Comments
While conducting a watch order on the residence, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered a
damaged door knob on the north side of the residence. It is likely the door knob was inadvertently
damaged by a worker as the residence is under construction. The homeowner was contacted and
informed the officers on scene that he will contact the contractor regarding the damaged door
knob.

Electrical Fire
Village Marina
Narrative / Comments
Bal Harbour Police units were dispatched to the marina reference a fire on the property. When
units arrived they discovered smoke emitting from an in ground electrical junction box located on
the west end of the marina. Miami Dade Fire rescue responded and disconnected the power to
the junction box which extinguished the small fire. It was determined that the fire was caused by
an electrical overload. Miami Dade Fire Rescue and Bal Harbour Police units remained on the
scene until Florida Power and Light arrived. No injuries or further damage reported.

Narrative / Comments
On Wednesday July 28
, A Bal Harbour police officer discovered a bicycle locked to a utility pole
in front of the Sea View Hotel. A notice was placed on the
bicycle affording the owner the
opportunity to remove
it within 24 hours. The following day
the officer responded back and
verified that the bicycle
had been removed.
