A special meeting of Town Council was held today at 7 P.M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided, Councilmen Peters, Hosti, Strong and Lovell. The meeting was called for the purpose of receiving from the Election Managers the certificate of the election for Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, held on April 5, 1954. It was moved, seconded and passed that the following report be adopted.: We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as Managers of the election -for Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, by,resolution adopted by Council at a meeting held. on.. March 10, 1954, and who have conducted said election held on April 5, 1954, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter ofPSavani- nah Beach, Tybee Island, and the laws of the State of Georgia ap-- plicable thereto, do hereby certify that said election was held on April 5, 195+, in accordance with the law,. and that the follow- • ing candidates received the number of votes set forth opposite their names for said offices, in said election: • For Mayor Edward A. Dutton 310 Votes Gordon Miller 3 it S. R. Kent • 1 n Mary B. Peters 1 " For Councilmen who are residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. Buckley Notary Public, Chatham County, Georgia It was moved, seconded and passed that the Resolution on Page 20.4, be adopted. 20 1 1 1 1 20 -A 2A -A A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the managers duly named by Resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council assembled, on the fifth day of April, 1954, to conduct the election just concluded and held on this the fifth day of -APIA , 1954, , at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, for the purpose of electing_ a Mayor and six (6) Councilmen, Three (3) of whom shall be bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and three (3) of whom shall be bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the Corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and who shall own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until the first Monday in iP2.41, 1956, or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified, have made the consolidated returns and/or results to the Mayor and Councilmen call- ing said election, which consolidation was done in the presence of and together with the several managers; and, WHEREAS, it appears that Edward A. Dutton received the highest num- ber of votes for Mayor of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and, WHEREAS,. James A. Brown, Benno P. Hosti and John L. Strong received the highest number of votes for Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the cor- porate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and William S. Lovell, Alexander Meddin and John A. Peters received the highest num- ber of votes for Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, who are bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee island, and who own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council assembled, and it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same that the result of said election be and the same is hereby declared as electing: Edward A. (60‘ Clerk-of Council 20 -B Savannah Beach, Tybee island, tea. April 14, 1954 The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P. M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided, Councilmen Meddin,. Peters, Lovell, Strong, Hosti, Brown, Town Attorney Bolms, Supt. Reed, Lt. Durden and Mgr. Lang. The minutes of the meetings held March 10th and April 5, 1954 were read and adopted. The Mayor informed Council that the FHA had given a firm committment for the erection of thirty (30) houses in Palm Ter- . race to the Paim Terrace Company. It was moved, seconded and passed that the Department of Public Works proceed with the work that was planned for Paim Terr- ace. Councilman Strong stated that quite a number of streets need to be repaired and that the present asphalt mixing machine is not large enough and suggested that the Town acquire a larger machine, he also stated that the parking areas should be repaved entirely but that this work should be done by a private contract- or, it was moved, seconded and passed that the Mayor and Council- men Meddin and Strong be appointed a Committee with power to act to have the parking areas repaved. It was decided that the H. D. Motorcycle used by the Police Department be sold. The Clerk was instructed to advertise it for sale in the newspapers. It was moved, seconded and passed that the Surf Club, located in Ft. Screven be granted a whiskey and beer license for 1954. The Mayor instructed Lt. Durden that ifany of the whiskey licenses had not been paid by the 17th of April that the place be closed and the Owner and /or Operator be placed on the docket. Supt. Reed stated that the water consumption was getting high and that a new pump is needed. It was moved, seconded and 1
