IV. Review and comment on draft logo concepts
i. Comments on Logo A
Member McKee said that she liked the badge effect and that the bridge was too large. She
explained that Riverwalk and Town in general doesn’t have a bridge like that.
Member Carroll said that all the elements of the logo felt detached and disconnected. She said
that it felt random and it needed to be more cohesive and tell a story. She said that she liked both
the old courthouse as a shadow and also liked the star/sun burst a lot. She explained that she
would like everything to tie in better.
The members discussed shifting things around a little bit for more cohesion.
ii. Comments on Logo B
Member Carroll commented that logo B looked more connected. She said that she would maybe
move the 1754 someplace else.
Both members agreed that the Dickson house should show the front view of the house. They
discussed whether the icons were needed or if they could be expressed somewhere else in the
logo.
Member Carroll said that it might be nice to be able to incorporate rural/agriculture if there is
enough space to do so, acknowledging that there is already going on.
Member McKee would like to see the river and some trees or something to represent recreation
also. The bridge shouldn’t be the major focus.
Both members discussed liking the cyclist and action/movement and maybe incorporating
someone walking. They also discussed how to convey art with just a paintbrush and how difficult
that might be because the arts in Hillsborough is so broad. The members agreed that they would
have to be careful in the use of icons and not upsetting any group.
Compiled comments:
- Add in topography and hilly part of Hillsborough
- Integrate picture elements better
- Reduce bridge size/extent
- Remove or reincorporate icons in some better way
- Remove bridge area outside of badge area
- Put courthouse in front and leave sunburst as background
V. Review and comment on work performed thus far on Visitors and Relocation Guide and Visitors
Map
i. Visitors and Relocation Guide
Ms. Campbell explained that the wireframes were showing the general layout for the Visitors
Guide and the content.
Member McKee asked if there should be a page for agritourism and if this document will be
available online and in print.
Ms. Campbell said yes, it will be and there is a page for agritourism.
Member Carroll asked if they should include AirBnB or VRBO information if there are any in
town.
Ms. Campbell said that there are many similar websites and apps too so they may end up going
down a rabbit hole with that, but it’s something to consider when building content.

ii. Visitors Map
Ms. Campbell explained that this was a snapshot of the design concept and that the design firm
wanted some feedback on concept.
Member McKee said that the map reminded her of place called Cabana Bay in Orlando that she
stayed a few years ago. She said that it was very 60’s and retro. She said it wasn’t what she was
expecting and that she wanted to convey that Hillsborough is a fun and artsy place but she wasn’t
sure about the 60’s feel.
Member Carroll said that it’s fun and lighthearted which she liked but yes, she agreed that it was
very 60’s. She also commented that the trees were all pine trees and she would like to see
rounder trees. She said that she thought a lot of people in town would hate this particular design
and that they may need something more classic and timeless.
The members discussed which kinds of attractions and buildings they would want drawn since it
would be fun to have a handful of them.
Compiled comments:
- Revise design to still be fun but not as 60’s/70’s
- Retain quirky and fun feel
- Fonts should match website/logo fonts
