III. MISSION AND VISION
STATEMENTS
The Mission Statement is meant as an enduring statement of purpose for the City of
Richmond that identifies the scope of its purpose and reflects its values and priorities. As a
shared expression of community values and aspirations, the overall Vision Statement
and the specific Chapter Vision Statements define community expectations and
directions for the future. The Steering Committee and Consulting Team debated the critical
components of both over the course of the planning process. What follows are the results of
these discussions in the form of carefully selected language that is meant to clarify the Mission
of the City and inspire all who call Richmond home for their families, business or institutions
through the Vision Statements of the future.
