Gonzalez, Village Manager 0-- DATE: August 28, 2015 SUBJECT: Emergency Management Update — Tropical Storm Erika The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide you with an update on Tropical Storm Erika. As of the 2 pm Public Advisory by the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Erika is located about 60 miles SW of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the Dominican Republic, Haiti, the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. At this point, Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for Cuba. There are no watches or warnings in effect for South Florida at this time. Our emergency management team is monitoring the storm's track, and communicating regularly with Miami -Dade County's Office of Emergency Management. At this time, we have taken all normal necessary precautions. If needed, Bal Harbour Alerts (WENS) will be sent periodically throughout the weekend, based on the storm's trajectory. At this time, Tropical Storm Erika is tracking westward, with expected 3-5 inches of rain, 34-39 mile per hour wind gusts and 20-25 mile per hour sustained winds. There is still potential for the storm to dissipate over the next 24-48 hours; however, we must continue to be vigilant and be prepared. As you recall, last week we shared a copy of the Village's Critical Incident Operations Plan with each of you, and we have different contingency plans in place based on the circumstances of the storm. If you need an additional copy of the plan, please feel free to contact my office. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please feel free to contact me or Chief Overton directly. JMG/MNO/DM/PR
