OVERTON Chief of Police Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/04/15 Traffic Enforcement Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments In an effort to enhance traffic safety the Bal Harbour Police Department's evening shift squad conducted a Traffic Enforcement Detail along the Collins Avenue Corridor from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The squad addressed speeding, seat belt violations, and move over law violations, illegal right turns, and parking violations. The squad issued 17 Citations during this operation. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/04/15 Traffic Crash Harbour Way West and Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A vehicle pulling a trailer was negotiating a U-Turn when the trailer hydroplaned due to heavy rain. The empty flatbed trailer struck the DOT 30 MPH Speed Regulatory Sign and aluminum pole causing it to break. The sign was picked up by Public Works and DOT was notified. No injuries were sustained in the crash. Date Incident/Arrest Location 09/04/15 Dog on the Beach Bal Harbour Beach Narrative / Comments A Surfside resident was issued a written warning by our code enforcement officer, for having a dog on the beach. Date Incident/Arrest Location 09/04/15 Felony Traffic Arrest 9800 Block Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour Police officer conducted a traffic stop for an expired registration decal. The investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver's license and he had been designated a Habitual Traffic Offender which is a Felony. The driver was arrested and transported to 'ail. A FLA Date incident/Arrest ILocation 09/04/15 Narcotics Investigation 1 9909 Collins Avenue Sea View Hotel Narrative / Comments Sea View Hotel management personnel called the Bal Harbour Police Department in reference to a suspicious incident. The hotel received two boxes that were shipped via the US mail. The persons named on the label are not residents of the hotel nor were they registered as guests. The subsequent investigation revealed that the boxes contained 27 large cans containing approximately one pound each of suspected Marijuana. Bal Harbor Police Detectives along with United States Postal Police are conducting a joint investigation and are working all leads. It should be noted that this is an emerging trend of moving contraband. This trend is being seen along the entire east coast of Florida. What is occurring is that contraband is mailed to hotels along the coast and then suspects show up to claim the packages. Date IncidenUArrest Location 09/04/15 Assist Other Agency 4833 Collins Avenue Grand Beach Hotel Narrative / Comments The Miami Beach Police Department requested our Narcotics Detection Canine regarding possible contraband in the mailroom of the Grand Beach Hotel. The Bal Harbour Police canine officer responded and conducted a search utilizing his detector dog. This incident is related to a call at the Sea View and both are pending further investigation. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/05/15 AOA/Bay Harbour Island PD 1155 93rd Street (Ruth Broad K-8) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police officers responded to Ruth K. Broad K-8 school to assist Bay Harbor Island Police officers with a burglary in progress occurring at the school. BHPD officers arrived and secured perimeter points around the school. Several juveniles were located and detained. The juveniles were subsequently arrested by the Bay Harbor Islands Police Department. OVERTO Chief of Poli FLA Date Incident/Arrest Location 9700 Collins Avenue 09/05/15 Theft / Arrest Saks Fifth Avenue Narrative / Comments The store manager for Saks Fifth Avenue advised that a sales employee had been under surveillance by store loss prevention officers for theft. On this date the employee was observed as she removed a bracelet from a store shelf and concealed it inside her brassiere. Overall the employee was recorded via store security cameras taking items totaling over four thousand dollars. The employee was arrested for felony theft and transported to Jail. She was also issued a trespass warning by shops security personnel not to return to the Bal Harbour Shops. Date incident/Arrest Location 09/05/15 Suspicious Person 10240 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A concerned Bal Harbour Village resident called police and advised of a suspicious male walking through several condo parking lots. Officers located the male at 10240 Collins Avenue. The male stated, he was homeless and admitted going through two parking lots looking for a water hose. A national and local crime database search revealed that he had no open warrants. Officers conducted an area canvass but did not discover any damage or burglaries. The male was offered assistance from the Miami Dade County Homeless Trust and offered transport to a local shelter. The male refused assistance, apologized for trespassing and stated that he was catching a bus and heading south. The officers ensured he departed the Village's jurisdiction. Completed by: Captain M.
