Subject: Anticipated Flooding due to the Annual King Tides
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to share with you that once again, flood -prone
areas of South Florida, including Bal Harbour Village, are expected to again deal with rising
water as the annual king tide rolls in Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28 fueled
by the super -and -full -moon.
According to tide predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, high
tides in excess of three-foot (3) are expected to swell in the coastal areas from Monday,
October 26 night, then again at Tuesday, October 27 morning through Wednesday, October
28. The tides and flooding are expected to recede by the end of this week.
The areas in Bal Harbour Village mostly impacted are the Collins Avenue corridor, particularly
on the east side and 96th Street, particularly on the south side (on and around Bay Drive in
Surfside).
Both the Bal Harbour Village Police Department and the Public Works Division are monitoring
the corridors to ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible over the next few days.
