OVERTON Chief of Police Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest Location 10/23/15 Information 70 Camden Drive Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police were dispatched to a burglary in progress to an occupied residence. The caller advised they were hearing voices and noise coming from the pool area. Units arrived and quickly established a perimeter surrounding the residence. Officers checked the exterior and interior of the home and did not find any evidence of a burglary. The Miami Dade Police Aviation Unit was flying nearby and responded to assist. The pilot scanned the area around the residence and surrounding homes but no one was observed. After interviewing the residents it was determined they may have been startled by noises created by strong winds. Date incident/Arrest Location 10/24/15 Assist Other Agency / Sunny Isles NW 167 Street and Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A Sunny Isles Beach police officer requested the assistance of our narcotics detection canine. Due to the discovery of 5 grams of Marijuana in a vehicle, which was involved in a traffic stop. The Bal Harbour Police K9 unit responded and conducted a canine sniff of the subject vehicle. Canine Apis gave a positive alert to the interior center console of the vehicle. This resulted in locating another gram of Marijuana. A field test of the narcotics came back positive for cannabis. Date Incident/Arrest Location 10/25/15 Unsecured Property 9800 Collins Avenue (Fairfield) Narrative / Comments While conducting a mandatory area check of the West side corridor of Collins Avenue, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered the door leading to the entrance of the building's electrical room to be unsecure. An additional canvass of the building revealed an unsecured window. Bal Harbour officers notified the Bal Harbour Shops security. OVERTON Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location 10/25/15 Suspicious Person 10201 Collins Avenue (Consultatio) Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour police officer observed a male entering the gate at the Consultatio construction site. Bal Harbour officers conducted an inquiry and determined the male was a security guard recently hired to patrol the construction site during the evening hours. As a precaution, all Bal Harbour officers were notified of the guard's presence on the property. Date incident/Arrest Location 10/26/15 1 Unauthorized Skateboarders 10101 Collins Avenue (The Palace) Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour officer was alerted by a concerned resident of juveniles skateboarding on the walkway of The Palace Condominiums. The officer located the juveniles and determined they were not residents. They were issued trespass warnings prohibiting them from skateboarding on the property. Date incident/Arrest Location 10/27/15 Suspicious Incident 9800 Collins Avenue (Fairfield) Narrative / Comments While conducting a follow-up security check for possible squatters at the vacant Fairfield building, Bal Harbour Shops security personnel discovered an open window to the rear of the building. To ensure no unauthorized persons were inside the property, Bal Harbour Shops Security personnel requested Bal Harbour officers to conduct a search of the property. Bal Harbour officers with the assistance of Surfside officers coordinated a systematic search of the property. No intruders or evidence of any squatters was located inside the property. Security personnel will inquire if perhaps one of the maintenance workers inadvertently left the window open. OVERTON +rfi c E � Chief of Police FLA Date Incident/Arrest Location 10/27/15 Suspicious Person 655 961h Street (Village Hall) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbor Shops security personnel advised the police department of a suspicious male or disoriented male loitering in the area of village hall. Bal Harbour police officers, assisted by officers from the Town of Surfside responded, locating the individual on the sidewalk in front of village hall. Upon speaking to the suspect it was determined that he was disoriented and appeared to be afflicted with a mental illness. The officers were able too illicit a phone number and were successful in contacting the individual's mother. She confirmed that he suffered from mental illness and was in need of his medication. The individual was transported to his residence in North Miami and released to his mother. Date Incident/Arrest Location 10/28/15 Traffic Crash / Pedal cyclist 10200 Block of Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A cyclist on a rental City Bike was riding southbound on the Haulover Bridge, Upon coming to the base of the bridge, he entered the outside southbound lane and was struck by a vehicle. The cyclist sustained minor injuries, however he did not require hospitalization. The cyclist was found to be at fault for the crash reference violating the vehicle's right of way.
