HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 69-2801 1 ORDINANCE No. 69 -280 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY ADDING NEW SECTIONS 2750 -2 TO THE TEMPLE CITY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO A POLICE COMMISSION. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES ORDAIN: SECTION 1. New Sections 2750 -2752 are hereby added to the Temple City Municipal Code, reading as follows: Section 2750. Police Commission. The City Council shall have the authority at any time to establish itself or to designate any other committee, board or commission, as a Police Commission; and may appoint official and ex officio members thereto. When so established, such Police Commission shall have the authority: 1) to designate the City Manager as Director of Public Safety with authority to act pursuant to Sections 41601 and 38791 of the Government Code of the State of California; 2) to establish any and all public safety functions and necessary rules and regulations; 3) to appoint peace officers pursuant to the provisions of Section 830 of the Penal Code; 4) to issue weapons' permits pursuant to Section 120.50 of the Penal Code; 5) to issue indicia of authority, such as badges, identification, uniforms, or other insignia of peace officer status; and 6) to perform any other such duties as may be assigned by the City Council. Section 2751. Salary. All members of the. Police Commission and Peace Officers appointed thereby shall receive a salary of $1 per year. Section 2752. Termination. The City Council may terminate the Police Commission and all of its functions at any time upon a four fifths vote. SECTION 2. The City Clerk of the City of Temple City shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and to its approval by the Mayor and shall cause the same to be published in the Temple City Times, a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Temple City.
