Now in its 51st year, the museum is currently undergoing an interior renovation that will increase programmable space by almost 50%. During the yearlong construction, the museum continues to bring contemporary art and art education to the community through creative partnerships. A series of artist projects are on view in bassX, a pop-up gallery at the Miami Beach Library across the street from the museum at 227 22nd Street. The museum is expected to reopen in late 2016. Located in the heart of Miami Beach’s Art Deco District, The Wolfsonian uses objects to illustrate how the past influences the present and shapes the future. The collection comprises over 180,000 objects from the 1850s to the 1950s— the height of the Industrial Revolution through the aftermath of the Second World War. CIFO is dedicated to the support of emerging and mid-career contemporary multidisciplinary artists from Latin America, who are challenging the established boundaries that define much of contemporary art today. The collection is constantly expanding and features such well-known artists as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker and Andy Warhol. In addition to displaying internationally established artists, the RFC actively acquires, exhibits and champions emerging artists working at the forefront of contemporary art. The primary purpose of this museum is to provide education in the visual arts by showcasing their collection of contemporary art. Since its inception, the de la Cruz Collection has collaborated with multiple institutions, provided artist residencies and established educational programs that include lectures, artist-led workshops, and docent-led tours.
