Burglary
10201 Collins Avenue(Oceana)
The Bal Harbour Police Department responded to the Oceana construction site regarding a
possible burglary in progress. Bal Harbour police officers, with the assistance of officers from Bay
Harbour Islands and the Town of Surfside arrived and immediately established a coordinated
perimeter around the construction site. The on -site security guard advised officers he observed
two males entering through the front gate. The security guard said he illuminated the area with his
spot light and the males may have fled inside the premises. Bal Harbour police canine unit along
with the Miami -Dade Police canine officers and the Miami -Dade Police aviation unit searched the
construction site, but no subjects were located on the premises. It was later determined the males
disengaged the lock securing the front gate in order to gain entrance to the construction site.
Officers discovered pry marks to an office trailer which appeared to have been made recently, but
no actual entry was gained to the interior. A Coastal Construction supervisor confirmed the pry
marks were freshly made. Due to the inclement weather conditions and possible scene
contamination by the security guard, the Bal Harbour Police Crime Scene Technician was unable
to process the scene for fingerprints. No items were reported missing. Bal Harbour police officers
increased police patrols at all construction sites throughout the village.
