OVERT Chief of Police �'4poLicEa.V� FLA Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest I Location 11/20/15 Damage Property 1 9700 Collins Avenue(Founders Circle) Narrative / Comments A Public Works employee discovered a damaged spotlight within the Founders Square preservation site. Public Works personnel responded and replaced the damaged spot light. A Bal Harbour officer was requested to document and photographed the damaged spot light. Date incident/Arrest Location 11/20/15 1 Loitering and Prowling Arrest 9800 Collins Avenue (Fairfield) While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, A Bal Harbour officer noticed a vehicle parked at the Fairfield vacant property. The Bal Harbour officer stopped to investigate why the vehicle was parked on the property. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the vehicle was idling and a male sitting in the vehicle. During the investigatory interview, the male's responses to the officer were inconsistent and conflicting. The male was unable to provide the officer with a legitimate reason for being on the property, and was subsequently arrested for Loitering and Prowling. The officer also noticed several personal electronic items (cell phones, laptop) inside the vehicle, possibly indicating the male was living inside the car. A criminal history check revealed the male had an active warrant in the state of Texas in the amount of $10,000. The male was taken into custody and transported to jail. As a precaution, Bal Harbour Police created and published an information flyer with the male's information to the surrounding municipalities. Date incident/Arrest Location 11/20/15 Suspicious Person 110300 Collins Avenue(Haulover Bridge) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police received a report of a male standing and looking over the railing on the Haulover Bridge. Bal Harbour police officers responded immediately and located the male who was observed by the officers fishing from the bridge. Bal Harbour officers explained to the male that fishing from the bridge is prohibited. Bal Harbour officers issued the male a warning and he immediately left the area. 655 NINETY-SIXTH STREET • BAL HARBOUR FLORIDA 33154 • (305)866-5000 • (305)993-5153 FAX BAL HARBOUR POLICE Chief of Police DE RTMENT f oE`R � HARB 1�Pnl S0 FLA Date incident/Arrest Location 11/21/15 Assist Citizen 9800 Collins Avenue (Roadway) Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour officer assigned to the Collins Avenue High Visibility Detail, was approached by an elderly male who said he was lost and could not remember how to get back home. The elderly male told the officer he decided to stop his car and ask the officer for help. The elderly male was not in need of medical assistance, nor did he display any signs of mental impairment. The Bal Harbour officer was able to contact the elderly male's son who responded and safely returned the elderly male to his home. Date incident/Arrest Location 11/21/15 Suspicious Person 9601 Collins Avenue (Beach) Narrative / Comments While conducting a mandatory beach check, a Bal Harbour officer discovered a male sleeping behind a storage container on the beach. The officer conducted an inquiry to determine if the male needed medical attention. The male told the officer he was is homeless and did not require medical attention. The Bal Harbour officer offered the male homeless shelter assistance, however, the male declined the services and was issued a Homeless Trust pamphlet. A routine criminal history check of the male did not reveal any adverse criminal history or active warrants. The male voluntarily left the area. Date incident/Arrest Location 11/22/15 AOA/Surfside Police 9400 Harding Avenue(Publix) Narrative / Comments The Town of Surfside Police received an audible alarm at the Publix Supermarket, when the Surfside officers arrived at the Publix, they noticed the lift gate to the entrance of the store was not completely secured, and possibly tampered with. Bal Harbour officers responded and established perimeter posts around the supermarket. Surfside officers searched the area and no persons were located inside the property. Bal Harbour officer documented their actions and returned to the Village to resume normal patrol activities. OVERT ON Chief of Police 11/22/15 Damaged City Property 1 300 96" Street Narrative / Comments While patrolling the 96 th Street corridor, a Bal Harbour officer discovered a broken sprinkler zone water pipe. The Bal Harbour officer contacted Public Works who immediately responded and repaired the sprinkler pipe. Date incident/Arrest Location 11/23/15 Vehicle Burglary 9700 Collins Avenue (Bal Harbour Shops) Narrative I Comments Bal Harbour police were summoned to the Bal Harbour Shops South parking lot regarding a vehicle burglary. When the Bal Harbour officer arrived, the victim told the officer after purchasing several items from Aventura Mall, she placed the items in the trunk of her vehicle and drove to the Bal Harbour Shops. The victim told the officer when she returned to her vehicle, she noticed the rear vent window was smashed and the items were removed from the trunk of the vehicle. On scene investigation revealed the perpetrator(s) smashed the rear vent window to gain access to the vehicle, once inside; the perpetrator(s) activated the trunk release to gain entry to the trunk. The vehicle was processed for possible fingerprints. Bal Harbour Police Command staff is communicating with the shops security to coordinate our efforts to increase crime deterrent activities in this area. Completed by: Captain M.
