OVERT Chief of Police \L Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date incident/Arrest Location 12/11/15 Grand Theft 9601 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A resident observed a male stealing a bicycle from the beach and riding away northbound on the beach hard pack. Bal Harbour police officers were summoned and upon arrival a B.O.L.O. was immediately broadcast for the male suspect. Bal Harbour officers located the male exiting the beach and he was detained. The witness positively identified the suspect as the individual they had observed removing the bicycle, he was then arrested and transported to the Miami -Dade County 'ail. The stolen bicycle was returned to the victim Date Incident/Arrest Location 12/12/15 AOA/Surfside Police 9200 Collins Avenue A Town of Surfside police officer conducted a traffic stop on a suspected intoxicated driver. The officer requested assistance from a Bal Harbour Police Department DUI certified officer in order to conduct a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFTS) on the suspected impaired driver. The result of the examination revealed the driver was in fact impaired; he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and transported to 'ail. Narrative / Comments A Bay Harbor Islands police officer requested assistance from the Bal Harbour K-9 unit in order to conduct a search of a vehicle that was emanating a strong odor of marijuana. The Bal Harbour canine officer and his partner APIS responded and conducted a search of the interior of the vehicle. The search did not detect any illegal contraband in the vehicle. OVERTON Chief of Police y Date incident/Arrest Location 12/12/15 AOA/Fish & Wildlife 9703 Collins Avenue (ICW) Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Police Department was notified by Miami -Dade Police Communications of a vessel that had capsized in the Intercostal Waterway near Bal Harbour's jurisdiction. When the officers arrived, the owner/operator of the capsized vessel had swam ashore. The owner of the vessel told the officers two other passengers were still in the water holding onto the capsized vessel. Bal Harbour officers immediately notified the surrounding law enforcement marine units, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers (FWC), the United States Coast Guard, and the Miami -Dade Police Aviation Unit which began a coordinated search for the two passengers. After an extensive search the remaining two occupants of the capsized vessel were rescued and transported to an area hospital as a precaution. FWC is investigating the incident and will coordinate with the owner to have the capsized vessel removed from the ocean. Date incident/Arrest I Location 12/13/15 AOA/Miami- Dade Police 1 10800 Collins Avenue (Haulover Park) Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour police officer monitoring the Miami -Dade Police Municipal frequency, responded in emergency mode to assist Miami -Dade Police Intercostal District officers at Haulover Park regarding a traffic crash with injuries and property damage. The Bal Harbour officer arrived and requested Miami -Dade Fire Rescue for the injured parties. The Bal Harbour officer assisted with traffic direction until other Miami -Dade police officers arrived and their assistance was no longer required. Date incident/Arrest Location 12/16/15 AOA/Fish & Wildlife 9700 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments Several months ago Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) issued a flyer containing information on two subjects who are known for the illegal poaching of snook. The flyer contained the information of the subjects and their vehicle. On this date, a Bal Harbour Police officer located the vehicle near the north lot and suspected the wanted poachers were fishing on the jetty. FWC was contacted and they immediately responded establishing a surveillance of the individuals. Once the vehicle became occupied FWC conducted a traffic stop with the assistance of a Bal Harbour police officer. The subsequent FWC investigation resulted in the arrest of both of the wanted subjects. OVERTO Chief of Police \g Date incident/Arrest Location 12/17/15 Possible Fire 248 Bal Bay Drive Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour resident reported smoke emitting from a Florida Power and Light transformer. Police and Fire units were dispatched to the scene and secured the area. Fire personnel deemed the transformer safe and there was no evidence of a fire. Fire personnel remained on the scene until FPL crews arrived. Completed by: Captain M.
