Code Enforcement Officers visited three restaurants in the Bal Harbour Shops to ensure they were in compliance with the single use plastic ordinance. Criminal Investigations COMMENTS: Detective Hector Gonzalez, Officer Richard Duarte, and Officer Jorge Waisman were honored by the Anti -Defamation League for their investigative efforts and apprehension of the individual responsible for the Hate Crime incident in March. The officers were presented with the prestigious Doris & Murray Felton Excellence in Law Enforcement Award. Additionally, the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) concluded the background investigation of two applicants for two Police Reserve Officers. Noteworthy Incidents /Arrests Date - Incident Type Location 12/06/2019 Traffic Dispute 96 Street & Abbott Avenue COMMENTS: Officers were summoned to the area regarding a possible road rage. Officers canvassed the area and located the parties involved. One driver was visibly upset, he told officers the other driver would not allow him to change lanes and a verbal altercation ensued. Neither driver engaged in physical violence; both parties left the scene without further incident. Date Incident Type Location 12/08/2019 Cops & Kids Event West Municipal Parking Lot COMMENTS: The Bal Harbour Police department in conjunction with the Bal Harbour Police Legacy Foundation hosted its annual Cops & Kids toy drive and community event. Residents donated toys and interacted with police and Village staff in several fun and competitive activities. All donated toys will be distributed to several deserving students in Miami -Dade County. 3 BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT Raleigh Flowers, Jr. Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report ' - oouca Date Incident Type Location 12/10/2019 Bicycle Theft 10230 Collins Avenue, Bal Bridge South COMMENTS: Officers were summoned to the Bal Bridge South Apartments regarding a bicycle theft. The victim told the officers her bicycle was parked in her designated parking space around 10am the previous day. When she returned home, she discovered the bicycle and the locking mechanism missing. Officers located security cameras that may have captured the incident; however, the video was unavailable. The Criminal Investigations Division will conduct a follow-up investigation. Date Incident Type Location 12/10/2019 Lost/Stolen Item 10190 Collins Avenue COMMENTS: Officers were summoned to Bal Harbour Manor regarding a missing UPS package. The resident told the officers her UPS package was never delivered; however, the carrier notified her the package was delivered December4, 2019. The Criminal Investigations Division will conduct a follow-up investigation. Date Incident Type Location 12/12/2019 Traffic Arrest / DUI 9700 Collins Avenue COMMENTS: A concerned motorist flagged down a Bal Harbour police officer and advised of a driver possibly under the influence south on Collins Avenue. The officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle had a flat tire and extensive front end damage. The driver failed the initial roadside sobriety tests and later refused to conduct the breath test. The driver was cited, arrested and transported to the Miami Dade County Jail.
