Weekly Summary Report
Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
COMMENTS:
Code Enforcement Officers investigated an allegation of a violation of the National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES) regulations in the 100 Block of Bal Bay Drive. Working closely with Village
Public Works officials, the team determined the site was in violation of NPDES. Code Enforcement
Officers issued a violation notice and will follow-up to ensure future compliance.
Code Enforcement Officers patrolling the gated community discovered bulk vegetation placed on the
curb ahead of bulk pick-up days. The homeowner was issued a violation warning and reminded about
bulk pick-up procedures.
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) investigated a report of a sewage leak on a property at Camden
Drive. CEO's worked with the building maintenance personnel and the Village Public Works team to
ensure the leak was contained and repaired.
Criminal Investigations
COMMENTS:
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to a watch retailer in the Bal Harbour Shops after
a grab -and -run theft of a high -value watch. The suspect pretended to be interested in a gold watch.
When the sales associate gave the suspect the watch to examine, the suspect fled from the store.
The CID used its Exchange newsletter to notify participating Bal Harbour Shops retailers of the watch
theft and distributed images of the subject in an effort to prevent repeat thefts.
Detectives immediately acted on early leads, coordinated with other agencies, and positively identified
the offender. Detectives then communicated with the offender and arranged a meeting at a restaurant
outside of Bal Harbour. The subject was taken into custody, provided a full confession of his crime,
and returned the watch. The watch was valued at over $35,000.
Detectives investigated a case of an elderly female missing from her condominium at the Balmoral
property. The 70 -year -old woman suffered from Alzheimer's and was believed to be in imminent
danger if not found. Police officers, supervisors, support staff, and staff members all worked together
to find the missing person. She was reported missing on 12-18-2019 at approximately 5:45pm, and
located in an empty apartment at the Balmoral on 12-19-2019 at about 12:15pm. She was in good
physical health.
