LETTER TO COUNCIL
NO. 186-2019
To: Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
From: Jorge M. Gonzalez, Village Manager
Date: December 20, 2019
Subject: Bal Harbour Village Public Workshop for the Coastal Inundation and
Economic Vulnerability Study
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to invite and provide you with information
regarding the upcoming Public Workshop for the Coastal Inundation and Economic
Vulnerability Study on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in the Village Hall Council Chambers,
from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.
As you recall, on October 29, 2019, the Village Council approved Resolution No. 2019-
1262, to retain the services of Coastal Systems International, Inc., (CSI) to conduct this
study and related activities. The Workshop conducted by CSI, is the first part of the
public engagement portion of the seventy five thousand ($75,000), dollar grant funded
Coastal Inundation and Economic Vulnerability Study.
Coastal Systems will introduce the analysis to be performed for the Study, which
involves assessing the Village's vulnerability to flooding and storm surge, compiling
property values, and calculating the potential economic value of adaptation to combat
the effects of sea level rise.
You as Elected Officials, all residents and business owners are invited to attend and
provide feedback on your resiliency goals and expectations. Additionally, this
workshop will provide information on future flooding risks and ways in which other
Florida communities are adapting for climate change. Notification to our residents will
be transmitted via the Village Website, notice signage, WENS and E Mail Blast systems.
If you have, any questions please contact Director of Parks and Open Spaces John
Oldenburg at 305.993.7368 or 954-205-9684.
