Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
COMMENTS:
While patrolling the gated community, Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) were approached by a
resident who found a wallet on Park Drive. The wallet contained cash, credit cards, and a Florida
driver's license. CEOs sought the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division to conduct public
record searches in hopes of contacting the owner of the wallet. CEOs placed calls to several numbers
and left messages for the owner of the wallet. The owner returned the call and responded to the
police department to claim his property.
Code Enforcement Officers discovered that an unoccupied home in the security residential district was
possibly being rented out for a party in violation of Bal Harbour Village Code, a code violation was
issued. The case has been assigned and is being actively investigated.
Criminal Investigations
COMMENTS:
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) actively investigated an armed robbery that occurred on
Sunday, January 12, 2020, in the North Lot. Detectives utilized license plate reader data, video data,
and outside agency resources to develop leads. The CID distributed a composite sketch of the
suspect to patrol officers and forwarded need -to -identify flyers to other law enforcement agencies.
On Thursday January 16, 2020, Bal Harbour Detectives working with Miami -Dade County Robbery
Intervention Detail detectives located a possible suspect who was in custody for several felonies
committed in Miami -Dade, including a fugitive warrant from Palm Beach County. The suspect was
positively identified and charged with committing the armed robbery in our community.
The CID assisted the Miami -Dade Fire Department by investigating the circumstances that led to a
firefighter falling in an elevator shaft at the Bal Harbour Shops. Detectives interviewed parties present
at the time of the incident, and ensured the scene was properly photographed for future reference.
The investigation revealed the fall was accidental and there is no foul play suspected.
