HomeMy Public PortalAbout20160420DAMSBODminutes TIDA/MS BOD approved: 5/18/16 Page 1 of 2 TYBEE ISLAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS Meeting Minutes: April 20, 2016 Vision: To improve the quality of life for those that live, work, and visit Tybee Island and enhance the cultural experience while preserving the community's barrier island heritage. The Mission of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Program is to: - facilitate efforts to revitalize, redevelop, and enhance that which improves the quality of life; - create a sense of place and improve the quality of life for residents, business owners, and visitors using the Main Street Four Point Approach; - encourage quality economic growth and development while preserving Tybee Island's unique architectural and community heritage; - support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island. ATTENDANCE (Present) Director: Angela Caldwell, Vicki Hammons, Diane Kaufman, Ted Lynch, Brenda Marion Ex-Officio Director: Sarah Bernzott, Melissa Memory Staff: Chantel Morton Guest: Bonnie Dorsey, Maryanne Bramble (Absent) Director: Steve Kellam, Julie Livingston Ex-Officio Director: Melissa Turner CALL TO ORDER Ted called the meeting to order at 6:09pm. DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS MINUTES Motion was made by Brenda, which was seconded by Angela, to approve the minutes of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Board of Directors March 16, 2016 meeting. Motion carried. ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW Chantel distributed the Program’s 2016-17 Committee Work Plans. Chantel reviewed the comparison of the 2015 Community Impact Report to the 2014 Community Impact Report handout by category and provided a summary of each. COMMITTEES Business Assistance Ted reminded Directors of the Merchant Meetup: How Do You Measure Success on May 2 at 9am at the Guard House. Guest speakers will be Becky Brownlee with the Small Business Development Center and Beth Nelson with the Savannah Film Office. Design Sarah introduced Bonnie Dorsey. Bonnie volunteered to do the artwork for the Public Mural Project when it was presented to the Tybee Arts Association. She expressed that this project is her gift to Tybee and has made her feel at home since she moved here. The layout, with drawings of applicable photos, for the first panel was presented to the Directors for review. The artwork that will be included to tie all of the panels together will be of bicyclists riding along a bike path. This will be towards the bottom of each panel. Directors expressed their appreciation and approval of TIDA/MS BOD approved: 5/18/16 Page 2 of 2 the layout. Better pictures of the current Pier and Pavilion and old amusement rides are needed. Angela will see if she can find one of the amusement rides. Chantel will take a picture of the Pier and Pavilion. A suggestion to include the year of the historic photos being used was made and agreed upon to be included as “Circa (year)” under each. Sarah continues to work on donations for all materials and will let Directors know if any monies are needed. The timeline is being developed in order to meet the goal of the first installation on the first Saturday of November. Sarah and Maryanne are confident this timeline can be met provided the materials are secured soon. Promotions Brenda reviewed the recommendations made and discussions had at the April 7 Promotions Committee meeting. Motion was made by Brenda, which was seconded by Ted, to host an Interactive Art Street Party on Tybrisa November 5 from 2pm until 5pm contingent on acceptance by the merchants on Tybrisa. Motion carried. Directors confirmed that parking will not be blocked all day; signage will be strategically placed to let people know the street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2pm until 5pm. Directors agreed that the goal of the Street Party is to showcase the first mural with an unveiling and to have city officials and community members help put the finishing touches on the mural. Directors confirmed there will be no sales / solicitation and that the activities for the Street Party will include artist doing demonstrations, musicians playing, Beach Clean Volunteers having a station for people to make art using litter. Brenda will talk with Chad regarding musicians. Angela will talk with the airbrush shops regarding having a temporary tattoo station. Brenda, Sarah, and Chantel will talk with the merchants within the next month. OTHER BUSINESS/PARTNER UPDATES Brenda announced that the MRS is having a chicken dinner fundraiser for the Tybee Island Maritime Academy on Saturday, April 23 from 3pm until 6pm. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 7pm.
