Week #19

Summary of Activities and Events
Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) continue their focus on construction sites within the gated
community. Each evening, CEOs visit each site and conduct an inspection at closing time to ensure the
sites are maintained and work is stopped at the appropriate time.
The Code Enforcement Unit assisted Public Works by citing eight construction sites in violation of
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) protocols. Copies of the violations were
forwarded to the Public Works Department for follow-up inspections.
Code Enforcement Officers issued written code violation warnings to five construction sites for failure to
maintain the properties within acceptable standards.
The CEOs continue their support of Patrol operations by covering posts along the beach walking paths
and assisting with traffic details as necessary.
Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continues to assist Patrol and Police Administration during the
Covid-19 detail. The CID assisted with the compilation of situational reports for staff, and conducted
daily patrols of the Village to enhance police visibility.
Detectives are actively investigating a fraud investigation involving a transaction for the purchase of a
watch valued at $130,000. Detectives have requested subpoenas of phone and bank records to assist
them in corroborating the fraud and developing evidence of a crime.
The CID is investigating a credit card fraud case involving purchases at a retailer in the Bal Harbour
Shops. The suspect used the victim’s account information to make the purchases and withdraw money
from an ATM.
The CID concluded its background investigation of a candidate for the position of Police Reserve. The
Department uses its reserve police force to enhance deployment of officers for special events.
