Dear Kurt,
I am resigning from the Parks and Recreation Department Advisory Committee effective June 30, 2022. I have appreciated the opportunity to be on the committee and, I hope, contribute
to the advancement of the department’s interests and efforts to serve the public now and in the future.
My reason for resigning is my wife’s and my decision to move closer to specialize medical services not immediately available in McCall. While we have received excellent care locally
and in Boise, the emergencies my wife experienced demanded immediate air transportation to Boise and continuing treatment with multiple trips to Boise and Meridian. The stark reality
is that if air ambulance services had not been immediately available, she could have died and her ongoing recovery made more difficult. My wife and I both love McCall and the surrounding
forest, lakes, rivers and trails. Our time here has been special and memorable and it will be hard to leave, but recognize leaving is a necessary precaution.
We have used the City of McCall’s parks and trails daily, regardless of the weather, and have met and become friends with numerous other trail users on our daily walks and occasional
bike rides around the community. Our regular conversations with department personnel on our walks have given me an appreciation of the pride the staff you lead have for each other and
in the department’s mission of service. They are dedicated employees who take pride in their work and represent the city well in their interactions with the public.
I am resigning not knowing exactly when we might be moving—we have just listed our condominium this week. Depending on the sale, we may be here a short time or several months. I feel
it is only fair to the department that whomever is appointed as my replacement have the opportunity to fully participate in the just initiated two-year strategic planning process.
It has been a pleasure to work with you, Stefanie, Tara and to interact with Eddie, Robyn, and Toni as they go about their work on my walking through the parks.
