Each evening, CEOs visit each site and conduct an inspection at closing time to ensure the sites are maintained and work is stopped at the appropriate time. Code Enforcement Officers are working with the registered agent of a corporation that purchased a home on the 200 Block of Bal Cross Drive. The corporation was issued a code violation after failing to correct landscaping violations. Code Officers conducted additional research and found the email address linked to the registered agent. CEOs spoke to the agent by phone and the agent promptly made the necessary arrangements to correct the violation. The Code Enforcement Unit will revisit the property to ensure compliance. Code Enforcement Officers patrolling the gated community on a Sunday were drawn to a property on the 100 Block of Bal Four Drive by what sounded like construction noises. Further investigation revealed the noise was the result of non-emergency work at the property. The workers cease working and left the property without incident. The homeowner was issued a code violation warning for allowing work that violated the Village ordinance. The Code Enforcement Unit assisted Patrol Operations by manning posts along the beachside walking paths. CEOs worked with patrol officers to ensure bicyclists adhered to the riding restrictions imposed in response to COVID-19. Criminal Investigations The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) concluded its investigation into a fraudulent purchase of a Rolex watch. The investigation revealed the fraud was orchestrated in the State of Missouri by an unknown suspect using the American Express account of a Bal Harbour resident. The watch was successfully returned to the vendor and the owner of the credit card did not suffer a financial loss. American Express will continue the investigation with authorities in Missouri. The CID is working with the FBI on a case related to threats originating in Mexico against a Bal Harbour resident. Detectives met with FBI agents and are offering support in the federal investigation. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continues to assist Patrol and Police Administration during the Covid-19 detail. The CID assisted with the compilation of situational reports for staff, and conducted daily patrols of the Village to enhance police visibility.
