In connection with the suggested Private Vehicle Parking Areas, Mr. Solms
stated that he had talked with his father relative to the use of part of Beach
Lot #101,Ward 5, for this purpose and also Mr. Brown would talk to W. H. Haar
relative to using some of the land on Beach Lots 91, 92 & 93, Ward 4, for this
purpose.

Mr. Harry G. Butler requested permission, as a property owner, to purchase
some of the land beyond the bulkhead in front of hisproperty on Venetian Drive.
This matter was referred to Mayor Strong.
Council was informed by the Clerk of the illness of Mrs. Louise Griffin,
Assistant in his office, and stated that at the present time she is not in condi-
tion to continue her work and suggested that she be given three months leave of
absence without pay effective July 15th.
It was moved, seconded and passed that when the town employees work overtime
at night spraying for mosquitoes that they be paid for overtime.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the_'following resolution, thanking
Warden L. C. Burns and the County Commissioners for their cooperation in connection
with the construction of the New Prison Camp, be passed.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of
the Mayor.

Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.
August 10, 1955
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P.M. in the
Council Room and was attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, Councilmen
Peters, Brown, Powers, Lovell, Meddin, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Mr. J. W.Lang,
Supt. Reed, Chief McCutchen, S. J. Thomas and Dr. Paul Fleming.
Dr. Fleming stated that he contemplated opening a fifteen (15) bed
hospital using one of the buildings in which the old base hospital was located
in Fort Screven, after some discussion Dr. Fleming and Mr. Thomas were excused.
Mr. Solms was requested to handle the matter and report to Dr. Fleming.
Mr. Lang reported that the number of delinquent water takers had dropped
from eighty to forty.
Superintendent Reed reported that the Town Hall was being painted, that
the New Prison Camp had been completed and that with the north easterly winds
that we have had recently the beach had lowered somewhat and some of the
jetties were exposed.

The matter of building a groin off of Eighteenth Street extending
toward Pelican Beach was discussed. Mr. Reed was requested to get an
estimate as to the cost of the groin at this point.
The minutes of the meeting of July 13th were read and adopted.
Chief McCutchen reported that a family was living in a house on
the island without water. This was referred to Mr. Lang. He also.
stated that speed limit signs should be placed on Jones Avenue, he also
reported the difficulty of handling traffic when a fire breaks out due to
vehicles following the fire engines to the fire. Councilman Powers
suggested that Fire Chief Burke be instructed to set up speed limits for
fire engines and volunteers.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for the month of July
for General Government amounting to 0,570.88 and that bills for the Water
Department amounting to $693.41 be paid.
A request was made by Mr. A. Pratt Adams, Jr. to purchase Alley #1
from the Town, located between Chatham Avenue and the low water mark of
Tybee Inlet, it was the opinion of Council that this could not be done and
the matter was turned over to Mr. Solms to handle.
The question of who owned the bulk head and the land westwardly of
the bulk head parelleling Venitian Drive was brought up and Council was
informed that it was owned by the Tybee Beadh Company.
The bad condition of the storm sewer running down Inlet Avenue and
emptying into Tybee Inlet was brought up. Referred to Councilman Hosti.
Mrs. Kathryn Carson presented a bill for $10.00 from the Thomas
Plumbing Company for cleaning out the sewer line running to her property,
she claiming that the work was done on the Town's part of the sewer main,
Mr. Reed reported that this work that was done on her property, payment was
denied.
A petition from Ester M. Cafiero for a refund on her 1954 and 1955
water bill was presented, she contending that the building had been closed
for two years. It was moved, seconded and passed that she be given a refund
for the year 1955 except that the dollar per month service charge for the
year be accept4d. ,/
The matter of the charge for the M. $. Machine located at the Red
Barn and which had been removed by Herman Diamond, it was moved, seconded
and passed that the license fee be pro -rated up to the time that the machine
was moved, and also that the license charge of Forty ($40.00) Dollars to
sell meats at Stephens Place (Mike Goldberg) be cancelled.
It was moved, seconded and passed that future meetings of Council be
held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 4 P.M.

A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Commissioners of Chatham County and Ex-
Officio
Judgess permitted the Honorable L. C. Burns, County Warden, to
assist the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in the
erection and building of a modern prison camp to house the State
prisoners at the camp, located in Ft. Screven, Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, this Honorable Board of Commissioners gave their
every assistance to the successful completion of this project,
and through the County Warden obtained the necessary additional
prisoners for the construction of said prison; and
WHEREAS, the location of this prison at Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, Georgia, and the use of the prisoners from the
same is very necessary and of extreme value to the economy,
maintenance and operation of the public facilities in Savannah
Beach, Georgia, and that part of Chatham County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in council assembled,
that the sincere appreciation of the Mayor and Councilmen be
extended to the Commissioners of Chatham County and Ex- Officio
Judges for their valuable assistance and support and more especially
for allowing the Honorable L. C. Burns, County Warden, to guide and
direct the prison project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread
upon tEe minutes of Council and a copy thereof sent to the Commissioners
of Chatham County and Ex- Officio Judges, and also that a copy be sent
to the Honorable L. C. Burns, County Warden.
A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Commissioners of Chatham County and Ex- Officio
Judges loaned to the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia,
heavy road equipment for use within the corporate limits of the Town
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, this equipment was necessary for the improvement of
streets and roads in the Municipality and without this assistance
the Municipality would have been unable to properly maintain and
repair certain streets and roads.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in council assembled, that
the sincere appreciation of the Mayor and Councilmen and the citizens
of the Municipality be extended to the Commissioners of Chatham County
and Ex- Officio Judges for their valuable assistance in loaning the
road equipment for use in the repair of the streets and roads.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread
upon E1 ominutes of council and a copy thereof sent to the Commissioners
of Chatham County and Ex- Officio Judges.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the above resolution be adopted.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of
the Mayor.

Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.
September 14, 1955.
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4:00 P.M. in
the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, Councilmen
Peters, Hosti, Brown, Powers, Lovell and Meddin; Town Attorney Solms, Jr.
Supt. Reed, Mr. J. W. Lang, Chief MMCutchen and Mr. L.B. Klusterman of the
Armco Company.
Mr. Klusterman informed Council that he was informed that the
Town was in the market for some drainage pipe and he wanted to offer his assist-
ands and cooperation, he was excused.
Chief McCutchen reported that the parking meters are being taken
down, repaired and stored until next season, the life guards have been let off,
the extra policeman finishes on September 15th. He stated that the first aid
equipment should be removed from the first aid station be re— conditioned and
stored away.
Mr. Lang reported that Mrs. Charlotte Bailey had not paid her water
rent. He was asked why the water was not cut off and stated that Mr. Reed
had orders to cut this water off. He stated that the number of delinquent
water takers was being reduced.
Superintendent Reed stated that the groin in front of the Solna
Hotel should be repaired.
The minutes of the meeting held August 10th were read and adopted.
It was moved,_ seconded and passed that the storm sewer on Inlet
Avenue emptgidgiiitc2Jybee lhlet be repaired at a cost of $517.28 and also the
groin on the beach in front of the Solme Hotel, approximately 300 feet long,
to be repaired at a cost of $4,522.00.
The Mayor stated that the heating system at the new prison camp
has not yet been purchased and that as cold weather will soon be here he would
like to see this work started. It was moved, seconded and passed that the
following committee be appointed to handle the matter with power to acts
Mayor Strong, Councilman Meddin and Superintendent Reed.
The Mayor reported that due to the recent heavy rains surface water
is in a number of places all over the island and cannot get out as there are
