HomeMy Public PortalAbout052-1994 - SPECIAL ORDINANCE SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF THE SIORDINANCE NO. 52-1994 A SPECIAL ORDINANCE SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF THE SISTER CITIES PROGRAM TO JAPAN WHEREAS The Sister Cities program has successfully linked the City of Richmond with the City of Serpukhov, Russia, since 1983, and WHEREAS global relationships between diverse cultures and national economies has benefitted the lines of our citizens, and WHEREAS cultural, educational and economic ties already exist between the City of Richmond with the nation of Japan as a result of the efforts of Earlham College and other community organizations, companies and individuals, and WHEREAS the development of a "people -to -people" relationship with the citizens of Daito-cho, Japan, would expand and enrich such relationships, NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, Indiana, and Daito-cho, Japan, is enthusiastically supported and encouraged. MILLIGAN City Attorney The above ordinance was requested by Council Member Hutton on behalf of the Sister Cities program. Mayor Cornett supports this ordinance because of our success with Serpukhov, Russia, and our many ties to Japan through education and business activity. Wayne Copenhaver from the Sister Cities Board of Directors will be present to explain the program and answer your questions.
