OFFICE OF THE VILLAGE MANAGER LETTER TO COUNCIL
NO. 085-2020
To: Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
From: Jorge M. Gonzalez, Village Manager
Date: June 12, 2020
Subject: Clothing & Shoe Drive Event Supporting Camillus House of Miami June
28, 2020.
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide you with information regarding
the upcoming Clothing & Shoe Drive Event supporting the Camillus House of Miami on
Sunday June 28, 2020, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Bal Harbour Village Hall Parking
Lot.
Due to the Bal Harbour Village, COVID 19 Safer at Home directive, many residents are
spending more time at their homes. Spring Cleaning of closets and other storage areas is
common and increased during this period. Unfortunately, many Donation Centers are not
accepting clothing and shoe items at their locations at this time.
This Event was developed in response to a suggestion offered during a conversation
between Parks and Public Spaces Department Director, John Oldenburg and former
Assistant Mayor, Ms. Joni Blachar. Subsequently, the Village contacted several Donation
Centers to schedule a truck to be placed at the Village Hall parking lot on a weekend, to
provide residents with a drop off location for their donations. The Camillus House of Miami
has agreed to participate in the Event to receive donations of clothing and shoes.
Notification to our residents will be transmitted via the Village Website, notice signage,
WENS and E Mail Blast systems.
If you have, any questions please contact Director of Parks and Open Spaces John
Oldenburg at 305.993.7368 or 954-205-9684.
