Chief of Police D ARTMENT , of 'G PQR9p FLA Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the listed totals. However, they are of sufficient interest to be noted. Date IncidenVArrest Location 9700 Collins Avenue 01/08/16 Directed Patrol Shops Detail Narrative / Comments In response to a suspicious incident which occurred earlier this week, the Bal Harbour police department has increased patrols on the roof top parking area of the Bal Harbour Shops parking garage. A Bal Harbour officer was placed on the roof of Saks Department store in a vantage point overlooking 96 Street corridor. No incidents were reported. Date incident/Arrest Location 01/10/16 AOA W/Bay Harbour Island Police 1351 95 Street Bay Harbor Islands Police requested assistance from Bal Harbour Police regarding an audible burglar alarm that was activated in Bay Harbor's jurisdiction. A Bal Harbour officer responded and conducted a security check of the premises. The property was secure and no indication of criminal activity was located by the Bal Harbour officer. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/10/16 Marijuana Arrest 10200 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments During the Collins Avenue Traffic and Radar Enforcement Detail, a Bal Harbour officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was exceeding the posted speed limit. When the officer approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior compartment of the vehicle. When the Bal Harbour officer inquired about the marijuana odor, the driver admitted to recently smoking marijuana and voluntarily surrendered the remainder of the marijuana. OVE Chief of Po D ARTMENT � i7AR§p I��eP L,P O+p )N ,«i A \ FLA Y Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/10/16 Dispute/Marijuana Arrest 290 Bal Bay Dr(Quarzo Hotel) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police officers were summoned to the Quarzo Hotel regarding a couple who were having a dispute in their hotel room. Bal Harbour officers arrived and located the parties involved. While inside the hotel room, the officers detected a strong odor of marijuana lingering inside the room. When the officers asked about the marijuana scent, the male admitted to smoking marijuana inside the room. The male surrendered the remainder of the marijuana and was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/12/2016 Dog on the Beach 10100 Block Beach Side Narrative / Comments While conducting mandatory beach checks, the Bal Harbour Code officer located a person walking an un-leashed dog on the beach. The person was issued a written code warning and explained the ordinance requirements. Date Incident/Arrest Location Possession of Burglary Tools & 9700 Collins Avenue 01/13/2016 Loitering & Prowling Arrest Bal Harbour Shops Parking Garage Narrative / Comments During a routine area check of the Bal Harbour Shops parking garage, Bal Harbour Public Safety Aide (PSA) observed two suspicious males on the pink level of the parking garage. The PSA observed one of the males looking into parked cars. The males separated with one walking towards the shops, and the other male entered a vehicle and drove to a different area of the parking garage, continuing his suspicious activity. The PSA notified Bal Harbour police officers who immediately responded and located the male attempting to exit the shops driving the suspicious vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle was stopped and the investigation revealed the male driver was in possession of burglary tools (cylinder key punch device and other tools commonly used to make forced entry into cars). Additionally, the male driver had previously been identified by the Bal Harbour Police Department as a person of interest due to his history of committing burglaries to vehicles. The subject was arrested and charged with prowling and possession of burglary tools. Computer checks reveal the subject was on federal probation. Chief PARTMENT Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/13/2016 Arrest / Battery Simple 200 Block 96 Street Bus Bay Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police officers were dispatched to an emergency disturbance involving a criminal battery in progress. The perpetrator of the crime fled into the town of Surfside and was stopped and detained by a Surfside officer. The investigation revealed the subject appeared to be intoxicated and committed a battery on two persons who were waiting for the bus. The victims were not injured and did not require medical treatment. The subject was arrested for misdemeanor battery and transported to jail by Bal Harbour police officers. Date Incident/Arrest Location 10240 Collins Avenue 01/14/16 Suspicious Vehicle (Bal Brid a North) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police officers were alerted by a concerned person of a suspicious vehicle parked at the location with a male asleep inside the vehicle. Bal Harbour officers arrived and located the suspicious vehicle. The officers made contact with the male who was asleep and inquired why he was at the location. The male explained to the officers he was waiting on friends who were fishing under the Haulover bridge. The officers explained to the male that parking was prohibited at that location after normal business hours. The male phoned his friends who returned to the vehicle and they all voluntarily left the area. Completed by: Captain M.
