OVER Chief of Police Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the above totals. However they are sufficient interest to be noted. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/23/2016 AOA/North Miami Police 12500 Biscayne Blvd. The North Miami Police Department requested assistance from the Bal Harbour canine officer and his partner APIS to conduct a search on a vehicle suspected of containing an illegal controlled substance. The Bal Harbour K-9 did not detect any illegal contraband inside the vehicle. However, they did discover several gift and credit cards concealed within the vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed the cards were fraudulent and the driver of the vehicle had made a recent purchase from Neiman Marcus. The driver was arrested and charged by North Miami Police. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/23/2016 Traffic Stop/Drug Arrest Harbour Way & Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour officer was alerted to a vehicle traveling north on Collins Avenue with a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The Bal Harbour police officer conducted a traffic stop on the suspicious vehicle, and when he beagn approaching the vehicle he observed unusual movements from the occupants indicative of them attempting to conceal items. The officers questioned the occupants about the odor of marijuana, at which time the driver voluntarily surrended the small amount of marijuana and an instrument used to inhale/smoke the marijuana. As a precaution, the Bal Harbour K-9 officer and his partner APIS conducted a search of the vehicle, however no other contraband was located. The driver was arrested. Date incident/Arrest Location 01/26/2016 AOA/Surfside Police 700 96" Street(Roadside) Narrative / Comments Surfside Police requested a female Bal Harbour police officer to conduct a pat down search of a female who was being detained in the Town of Surfside. A female Bal Harbour officer responded and frisked the female for contraband and weapons. The employee told the responding officer while he was performing his landscaping duties, he discovered the firearm on the ground. The firearm was removed and impounded into the Police Property and Evidence Bureau. Date incident/Arrest Location 01/26/2016 Battery(Road Rage) 9800 Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments While on the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour officer was alerted by a female driver who was battered by another driver during a road rage incident. The female driver provided the officer with a detailed description of the person who battered her along with a description of the perpetrator's vehicle. The Bal Harbour officer immediately broadcasted the description of the perpetrator to the surrounding police agencies. Moments later, the perpetrator was stopped and detained by the Sunny Isles Police Department. The Bal Harbour officer was able to locate an independent witness who provided a detailed summary of the road rage incident. The perpetrator was subsequently arrested and charged accordingly. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/26/2016 Assist North Bay Village Police 8500 Biscayne Blvd. Narrative / Comments The North Bay Village Police Department requested assistance from our canine unit in reference to a subject wanted for burglary who had fled from their officers. The Bal Harbour K-9 Officer responded to the perimeter location and searched two abandoned trailers however the subject was not located. Date incident/Arrest Location 01/27/16 Criminal Mischief 10201 Collins Avenue Oceana Construction Site Narrative / Comments A construction supervisor reported that on January 20, 2016 unknown person(s) cut several electrical wires on the project; however they did not notify the Bal Harbour police department of the incident. On January 26, 2016 they discovered newly cut wires while conducting an inspection. The total damages are estimated at over $8000 dollars. The supervisor advised that they believe the acts are being committed during work hours. Oceana personnel reported a similar incident four months ago and despite investigative efforts no persons were identified. OVE Chief of Pol PARTMENT Date incident/Arrest Location 9700 Collins Avenue 01 /28/16 Fraud Arrest Sak Fifth Avenue Narrative / Comments Store loss prevention officers observed an individual suspected of making fraudulent purchases in October of 2015. However, the subject was not apprehended at the time and left the store. On 01-28-16, the Bal Harbour Police Department responded and assisted loss prevention personnel in detaining the said suspect who had returned to the store. The investigation revealed that the suspect is a known felon who utilizes fraudulent credit cards in order to make high value purchases at retail stores. On this date the suspect was in possession of several fraudulent Florida Drivers Licenses, credit card and ATM cards. Furthermore, it was discovered that the suspect had made fraudulent purchases in the amount of $3000.00. The suspect was charged accordingly and transported to jail. The Bal Harbour Police detectives shall follow-up on the previous incidents for the issuance of additional criminal charges. Date Incident/Arrest Location 01/28/16 Assist Miami Dade Police 10200 Block of Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police was dispatched to an emergency on a Miami Transit Bus where a male had cut himself with a bottle. Units escorted the male off of the bus and requested fire rescue for minor cuts to his face. The male apparently sustained the injuries as he tried to open a beer bottle. Our officers learned the incident occurred in the Haulover area and summoned Miami Dade County police units who took custody of the individual. Completed by: Captain M.
