Young in the Bal Harbour Village Police Department
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a general compliment received
praising Detective Hector Gonzalez and Sergeant Jack Young in the Village's Police
Department for providing excellent professional service.
Join me in recognizing Hector and Jack for their hard work in providing a high quality of
policing expertise to the Bal Harbour Village community.

Dear Chief Mark Overton,
My name is Carol Hudson and on Friday, January 22, 2016 1 filed a complaint at the Bal Harbour Police
Department regarding threat's that led to extortion by a man who went by the name of Doug, but who is
now known to me as Brian Lee Beck. I have never gone through such an ordeal, and to say the least, I
was extremely frightened of what this person was capable of doing to my family and me. This terrifying
experience started since the beginning of December of 2015; and was the primary cause of my being
hospitalized on three different occasions during the holiday season, and the beginning of the New Year.
I decided to take a stand that Friday and report this heinous act of terror to your department, and was
greeted by Sergeant Jack Young who had shown such interest and compassion towards this case and
me that I felt safe for the first time in six weeks. I was asked to come back to the station the following
Monday and had the great pleasure of meeting Detective Hector Gonzalez, who just like Sergeant Young,
showed the same interest and compassion. Both Sergeant Young and Detective Gonzalez were so kind
to me that they even gave me their personal contact information and invited me to call them anytime
should a problem arise. As I visited the station everyday throughout the week, Jack and Hector always
took the time to talk to me and to also follow up with me. They assured me of my safety and reassured
me that they would catch this person.
On Monday, February 1, 2016, Detective Hector Gonzalez had me set up a meeting with Mr. Beck at the
Aventura Mall. I paid Mr. Beck monies that he was extorting from me and left as instructed and was
notified shortly afterwards that Mr. Beck was arrested and under custody. The dedication,
professionalism, and care that Sergeant Jack Young and Detective Hector Gonzalez have exemplified
during this horrific time in my life has affirmed my faith in the justice system, and makes me proud to be a
resident of the City of Bal Harbour. If the actions of these wonderful men are reflective of their leadership,
it says a lot about you sir. From the bottom of my heart, I want these men to be commended for their
actions, and I want to personally commend you sir for having the wisdom in having such quality officer's
on your staff.
