A Special Meeting of Council was held today at 10:30 P.M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, and Councilman Peters, Meddin, Lovell, Hosti, Waters, Brown, Town :Attorney Solms, Jr. The purpose of the meeting was to receive the election report of the Managers for the election for 'Mayor and Councilmen held today as follows: P: 1 We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as Managersof the election for Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, by rdsolution adopted by Council at a meeting held on March 14, 1956, and who have conducted said election held on April 2, 1956, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and the laws of the State of Georgia applicable thereto, do hereby certify that said election was held on April 2, 1956, in accordance with the law, and that the following candidates received the number of votes set forth opposite their names for said office, in said election: FOR MAYOR Herman Diamond William D. Sapp John L. Strong 147 Votes 39 Votes 460 Votes For Councilmen who are residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah' Beach, Tybee Island, and own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island Norton Frierson 160 Votes William S. Lovell 438 Votes L. J. Mears 148 Votes Alexander Meddin 435 Votes John A. Peters 447 Votes Sanford Rabin 130 Votes For Councilmen who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beech, Tybee Island 1 1 1 Robert T. Strong has received the highest number of votes cast for any candidate for Mayor of said Town; that William S. Lovell, Alexander Meddin and John A. Peters have received the highest number of votes oast for any candidate for the office of Councilmen of said Town who are bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside of the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and that James A. Brown, Benno P. Hosti and Robert L. Waters have received the highest number of votes cast for any candidates for the office of Councilmen of said Town who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. BUCKLER Notary Public, Chatham County, Ga. 85 86 It was moved, seconded and passed that the following Resolution be adopted: A RESOLUTI( I WHEREAS, the managers duly named by Resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in - Council assembled, on the 14th day of March, 1956, to conduct the elec- tion just concluded and held on this 2nd day of April, 1956, at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and six (6) Councilmen, three (3) of'whom shall be bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and three (3) of whom shall be bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah. Beach, Tybee Island, and who 'shall own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until the first Monday in July, 1958, or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified, have made the consolidated returns and /or results to the Mayor and Councilmen calling said election, which consolidation was done in the presence of and together with the several managers; and, WHEREAS, it appears that John L. Strong received the highest number of votes foi i—Mayor of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and, WHEREAS, James A. Brown, Benno P. Hosti and Robert L. Waters received the highest number of votes for Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, TybeeIsland, and William S. Lovell, Alexander Meddin and John A. Peters received the highest number of votes for Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, who are bond fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and who own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Cpuncil assembled, and it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same, that the result of said election be, and the same is, hereby declared as electing: John L. Strong James A. Brown Benno P. Hosti As Mayor As Councilman As Councilman William S. Lovell As Councilman Alexander Meddin As Councilman John A. Peters As Gouneilman Robert' L. Waters As Councilman 1 1 for the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until the'first. Monday in July, 1958, or until their successors are elected and duly qualified; said results appearing from the returns of said election managers, which said returns are hereby adopted and made a part hereof. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor. Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. April 11, 1956. The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, Councilmen Hosti, Brown, Lovell, Waters and Meddin, Town Attorney Solna, Jr., Superintitndent Reed, Chief McCutchen, Manager Water Dept. J. W. Ling, Mr. Horton and Jackie Osborne, Jr. Messrs. Horton and Osborne requested permission to rent out floats, life rafts, etc. on the beach for the coming season, they were informed of the req3irements of the Town to engage in this business after . which they were excused. Chief McCutchen stated that the lift guard station needs new supplies for the coming season and also that a 15 H P Outboard Motor was offered to be loaned to the Town to be used in life guard work if the Town would purchase a life boat. It was moved, seconded and passed that summer uniflorms for the Police Depart- ment be authorized. Mr. Reed stated that some of the streets needed to be repaired and repaved and he had some estimates on this work. After some discussion it was decided that a Committee consisting of Councilmen Meddin and Hosti get estimates from several of the paving companies relative to the streets being repaired. The minutes of the meeting of March 14th were read and adopted. Councilman Lovell stated that as a portion of the houses in the Richards sub - division between First and Second Avenues had been sold he was informed that these buildings were on one water main running across privately owned 87
