Gonzalez, Village Manager rer- Date: April 8, 2016 Subject: Unscripted Bal Harbour Art Chat - Placemaking: Subterranean, Celestial, Democratic The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you of the upcoming Unscripted Bal Harbour Art Chat event Placemaking: Subterranean, Celestial, Democratic taking place on April 28, 2016. Teresita Fernandez's work is characterized by an interest in perception and the psychology of looking. Fernandez's experiential, large-scale works are often inspired by are rethinking of the meaning of landscape and place, and by diverse historical and cultural references. A 2005 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, Fernandez became the first Latina to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts when appointed by President Obama in 2011. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort. Attached is the postcard which is being mailed to all Village residents. Her sculptures present spectacular illusions that evoke natural phenomena and engage audiences in immersive art experiences and conceptual way -finding. Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) director Franklin Sirmans has vast experience as a curator, writer and editor. In his role as the contemporary art curator and department head atthe Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACM A), he curated 'Noah Purroy: Junk Dada' as well as'Futbol: The Beautiful Game.' He is also the former -Artistic Director ofthe 2014 Prospect New Orleans biennial exhibition, and was the U.S. Editor of Flash Art and Editor in -Chief of ArtAsiaPacific.
