However they are sufficient interest to be noted. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/06/16 Traffic Arrest 9600 Harding Avenue Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour officer assigned to the 96th Street and Harding Avenue Crosswalk Traffic Detail observed a driver commit a traffic infraction. Upon detaining the motorist, he voluntarily admitted that his driver's license was suspended. OVERT Chief of Police r _tjk "�p6LIGE' FLA' Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/08/16 AOA/W Miami -Dade Schools Police 9700 Collins Avenue (BHPD) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour Police received a request from Miami -Dade Schools Police (MDSP) to assist them in detaining a juvenile who was reported missing by MDSP. The missing juvenile had returned to her residence in Bal Harbour and the parents were accompanying her to the Bal Harbour Police Station. When the parents arrived at Bal Harbour Police Station, the juvenile ran away from them and fled running through the Bal Harbour Shops. A description of the juvenile was broadcasted to the surrounding agencies. Moments later, Bal Harbour police officers located the juvenile and detained her. The juvenile was released to the custody of MDSP, and eventually reunited with her parents. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/10/16 Vehicle Fire 701 96t" Street (Public Works Dept.) Narrative / Comments Police officers were notified by a Bay Harbor Islands resident of a Bal Harbour Village Public Works vehicle possibly on fire. The vehicle was parked to the rear of the Public Works facility. Bal Harbour police officers along with Miami -Dade Fire Department responded and noticed a small fire contained to the bed of the Public Works Grapple Truck. The fire department quickly extinguished the fire. Investigation revealed the fire ignited by an unknown source within the trash and debris. The truck did not sustain any damage and no injuries or other property damage was reported. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/10/16 Marine Incident Haulover Inlet Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Police Marine Unit observed two males on a jet ski struggling to navigate the rough waters and current within the Haulover Inlet. The marine patrol officers were able to safely board the two males onto the police vessel, securing a tow -line to the jet ski and towing it to the Haulover Marina. OVER Chief of Police Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/10/16 AOA/W Border Patrol 9801 Collins Avenue (Beach) Narrative / Comments Bal Harbour police officers received a report of several males who arrived in a hand-crafted vessel on the Atlantic Shores of Bal Harbour Village. The police officers arrived and located a total of eight males standing on the bike path. After a brief inquiry with the males, the officers determined the males were Cuban migrants who just arrived in their vessel and were seeking political asylum. Miami -Dade Fire Rescue was requested to ensure the males did not require immediate medical attention. Bal Harbour police officers coordinated with the St. Regis Hotel staff who graciously provided hydration and towels to the migrants. Pursuant to protocol, the U.S. Border Patrol responded and transported the males to their facility for processing. Bal Harbour officers contacted the appropriate Miami -Dade County entity to have the vessel remove from the beach. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/10/16 Sexual Battery 290 Bal Bay Drive Narrative / Comments On this date the Bal Harbour Police Department was notified of a sexual battery that occurred on May 01St 2016 at the location. The investigation originated at a public high school in Miami -Dade County and was investigated by the Miami -Dade Police Sexual Battery Bureau. BHPD detectives were advised of the investigation on May 10t" after Miami Dade Police detectives' interviews of the suspects who were involved in the case revealed the exact location of the original incident. This incident was an acquaintance type incident and was not a random criminal act. The Bal Harbour Police department's role was that of support for the Miami -Dade Police Department's investigation. The investigation did lead to the suspects' arrest and the incident received media attention. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/11/16 Damage City Property 10175 Collins Avenue (Walking path) Narrative / Comments While conducting a mandatory beach check, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered a damaged concrete light fixture on the walking path. Public Works personnel were notified and photographs of the damage were taken. 655 NINETY-SIXTH STREET • BAL HARBOUR FLORIDA 33154 • (305)866-5000 • (305)993-5153 FAX BAL HARBOUR PO CE PARTMENT MARK N. 0 RTON Chief of Po`I ce Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/12/16 Damage to DOT Property Harbour Way & Collins Avenue Narrative / Comments A vehicle lost control and struck the Pedestrian Crosswalk Sign located on the median. The pole was completely detached from the base and knocked over. The vehicle fled the scene however an anonymous witness called Miami -Dade County police dispatch and provided the vehicle description and tag. The Bal Harbour Police detectives were contacted and they will follow up on the leads and evidence obtained from the scene. Public works was contacted and the pole was removed from the scene. The Department of Transportation will replace the sign as soon as possible. Date Incident/Arrest Location 05/12/2016 Suspicious Person Public Works Facility While conducting a security check of the premises a homeless male was discovered sleeping by the employee break room on the west side of the property. An investigation revealed that the individual was homeless and looking for a place to sleep. A records check revealed no warrants for the individual's arrest. The individual was offered homeless assistance which he declined; he was then ordered off the property and warned with arrest if he were to return. Completed by: Captain M.
