Subject: New Bal Harbour Express Shuttle Bus with Features Upgrade
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you of the recent purchase and
inaugural ride of the Village's brand new state-of-the-art express shuttle bus.
The new bus provides residents with a comfortable ride on a 16-seat interior including two
ADA complaint wheelchair positions. Additionally for convenience, a GPS transponder has
been installed which provides continuous tracking signals that enables residents to locate the
shuttle on a map in real time. With the use of an easily downloaded app and a phone or
mobile device, riders will know when the shuttle bus will be arriving at a location for pick-up.
Similarly, the Village is utilizing a technology called Mobile Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL),
which will improve the efficiency and convenience of the Village shuttle bus system — and will
shorten the time spent waiting at shuttle stops.
Shuttle riders have three ways to track the location of the Bal Harbour express shuttle:
• Web Tracker — See the shuttle move along the map in real time via the Bal Harbour
website.
• Mobile App — Download the TSO Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet to look up
routes, shuttle location and arrival times.
• Texting or Dialing - Get real-time location or ETA information by dialing or texting a
phone number through the Automated Voice and Text Information System (AVIS).
For Councilmembers and interested residents, the inaugural ride for the new shuttle has been
set for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5. The bus will depart from the parking lot of Village Hall
and tour the community. The express shuttle will then enter service the following day,
Wednesday, July 6 on its current operating schedule.
