OVERTON Chief of Police FLA Weekly Summary Report Noteworthy Incidents The incidents listed below are included in the above totals. However they are sufficient interest to be noted. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/02/16 Workplace Injury 200 Bal Bay Drive Bal Harbour Marina Narrative / Comments One of two workers at the marina conducting repairs to the Sea Wall fell in a sink hole along the wall. It appears the repair work unearthed the hollowed area. The hole was chest deep however the worker was able to pull himself out. Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded and treated the worker who complained of back pain. The injured worker was transported to the hospital due to his injuries. The sink hole was temporarily covered and the area was secured with yellow caution tape. The owner of the marina was notified and responded to the scene. Photographs were taken of the worker and the sink hole. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/03/16 AOA/Surfside Police Abbott Ave/90 Street Narrative / Comments A Surfside police officer requested assistance from BHPD officers regarding a male fleeing on foot from the officer. Officers arrived and assisted in apprehending the fleeing suspect who was arrested by the Surfside Police Department. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/03/16 Arrest Narcotics Violation 10200 Block on the Beach Narrative / Comments While conducting a beach check, a Bal Harbour police officer observed a male sitting on a chair smoking a marijuana cigarette on the beach. The male was arrested and released on a promise to appear at a later date in court. OVERTON Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/04/16 Distressed Swimmer Biscayne Bay W/Haulover Bridge Narrative / Comments While patrolling the intercostal waterways, the Bal Harbour Police marine patrol observed a swimmer struggling against the outgoing tide. The officers realized the rip currents were forcing the swimmer toward the Haulover Bridge and Inlet. The officers maneuvered the vessel allowing them to retrieve the swimmer safely, which did not sustain any injuries and was subsequently returned to her vessel. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/04/16 Distressed Swimmer Haulover Sandbar Narrative / Comments While patrolling in the intercostal waterways, the Bal Harbour marine patrol officers received a request from a boater for emergency assistance at the Haulover Sandbar. The marine officers arrived and located a female in the bay struggling with the tidal current. The officers successfully retrieved the female from the bay and returned her to a nearby vessel. The female was not injured. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/04/16 Arrest Narcotics Violation 10200 Block on the Beach Narrative / Comments The Bal Harbour Police Department received an anonymous call in reference to individuals on the beach smoking marijuana. An officer located two males who were indeed smoking marijuana cigarettes. The individuals were arrested and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. The contraband was impounded for evidence and placed in a police department property locker. Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/04/16 Independence Day Celebrations Bal Harbour Beach/Jetty Narrative / Comments In preparation for the annual Bal Harbour Village Independence Day Celebration events, the Bal Harbour Police Department devised a comprehensive operational plan outlining the police department's response in order to ensure the safety and security of all attendees at the event. OVERTON Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Date Incident/Arrest Location 07/04/16 Code Ordinance Violation 291 Bal Bay Drive Quarzo Construction Site Narrative / Comments A Bal Harbour police officer observed a Quarzo Hotel maintenance man parking vehicles on the Quarzo property construction site. The investigation revealed the individual was charging Independence Day celebration participants $20.00 for parking on the site. The individual was ordered to desist his actions and was issued a code violation. Compl /by:in M.
