Subject: Mosquito Control Public Awareness Campaign
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide you with information regarding
the "Drain and Cover' marketing effort sponsored by Miami -Dade County Department of
Solid Waste Management. During the active mosquito season (May to October), the
department's Mosquito Control Section increases their activities to eliminate mosquito
breeding and adult mosquitoes throughout Miami -Dade County. Currently, Mosquito
Control inspectors as well as seasonal and contracted staff are conducting residential
inspections based on residents' reports to 311 of mosquitoes as a biting nuisance. Where
adult mosquitoes and/or mosquito breeding activities are confirmed, the inspectors spray
an insecticide using handheld equipment or treat breeding sources with larvicide.
The attached public education materials on the prevention of mosquito breeding and
mosquito bites (which have the potential to transmit mosquito -borne illnesses) will be
made available to the Bal Harbour Village resident by literature an through social links such

This information will also be transmitted to our residents by postcards and will be
mentioned within the August Bal Harbour Village Newsletter.

covers, coolers, toys, flower pots or any other containers
where sprinkler or rain water has collected.

CLOTHING If you must be outside when mosquitoes are
active, cover up. Wear shoes, socks, long pants, and long
sleeves.
REPELLENT Apply mosquito repellent to bare skin
and clothing. Always use repellents according to the
label. Repellents with DEFT, picaridin, oil of lemon
eucalyptus, and IR3535 are effective. Use mosquito
netting to protect children younger than 2 months.

con DEET, picaridin, aceite de eucalipto de limon y IR3535
son of icaces. Use mallas de mosquitos para protejer
ninos menores de 2 meses.
