The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P M in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, Councilmen Brown, Waters, Meddin, Hosti, Lovell, Superintendent Reed, Chief McCutchen, E.C. Bobo and Mr. Boucher. Mr. Bobo informed Council that he was interested in constructing a swimming pool, 20 x 30 feet, in connection with his Motel, he also stated that he had purchased a lot on Jones lvenue, the size of which was 47 x 110 feet, as he was moving a bunga- low from his property on Jones Avenue to this lot. He was informed by the Building Inspector that the minimum size lot in this section on which a house could be placed is 50 x 70 feet, the front of a house would be within the boundaries required by the Code, he requested permission to place the house on this lot. It was moved, seconded and passed that permission be granted and he was excused. Mr. Boucher discussed with Council Group Insurance which was sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association and left a number of pamphlets showing the advantages of this type of insurance for employees of the Town. Mr. Reed stated that he was doubling up for Mr. Lang who is on vacation and that he had checked on the construction work being done at the new building on Sixteenth • Street being erected by Mr. T. S. Chu. He stated that the building is not being erected according to the Building Code and also that the roof arrangement is such that rain water will drain on to the adjoining property, Councilman Hosti stated that he informed Mr. Chu that the Town would not permit water from his building to drain on other property. It was the opinion of Council that Mr. Chu be given all cooperation possible but that he must comply with the building code. The clerk was instructed to write Mr. Chu to this effect. Chief McCutchen stated that there was constant seepage in the basement at the jail which has to be pumped out with the motor which was installed on the floor and this motor has been flooded out and damaged, he stated that the coat to repair same would be about $100.00. It was moved, seconded and passed that this condition be corrected at a cost of not over $100.00. He also stated that Ray Clanton Motors did not have a 1956 Mercury on hand so he got a 1957 model at a cost of approximately $1600.00 with the trade -in. A petition was read from R. P. Beeland and Robert W. Cook for additional space from Fourteenth to Sixteenth Street which is now licensed to another party, the petitioners are•now operating between Twelfth and Fourteenth Streets. Referred to the Police Committee. Councilman Lovell called attention to the small amount of delinquent water takers and stated that of these three were town employees and he felt that they should be made to pay up. The minutes of the meeting of November 14th were read and adopted. Council was informed of the bad condition of the old oyster house owned by the Estate of Samuel Blumenthal located on Tybee Inlet, the bungalow owned by William C. Helmly located on the Southern half of'Lot 43 and All of Lot 42, Ward 6, also the ,building located on Campbell Street owned by Mr. R. H. Seay. These buildings are dangerous to health and are a fire menace and it was the opinion of Council that they should either be repaired or removed and that something definite should be done by December 31st. The clerk was instructed to write the owners informing them that some- thing must be done by December 31st, 1956 or it would be necessary to institute con- demnation proceedings. 16 It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for General Government for the month of November amounting to $1,084.06 and bills for the water Department amounting to $265.23 be paid. The request -of John Curry to be permitted to operate a oyster house on the property of the Estate of Samuel Blumenthal on Tybee Inlet was denied. Councilman Maters- stated that the new hose for the Fire Department had beenreceived and was in use, he also stated that Mr. Reggie Baker, State Fire Inspector, stated that some of the buildings down here need to be corrected by the property owners. It was moved, seconded and passed that cigarettes and tobacco be given to the prisoners and guards at-the-Prison Camp as a Christmas Present. The matter of bringing the Towne Charter up to date was discussed and Council appointed the Mayor, the Town Attorney and the Clerk a Committee to handle the matter. in affidavit was presented by Mr. T. A. Schultz, electrical contractor, to the effect that he had taken the Town's electrical examination some years ago and was issued a license of that time to do electrical contracting work on the island. Council agreed that Mr. Schultz was entitled to have a license issued to him. There being no further business, Council /adjo rned, subject to the call of the Mayor. The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P M in the Council Room and wqs attended by Mayor Strong, who presided, Councilmen Hosti, Brown, Waters, Meddin, Lovell, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Superintendent Reed, Chief McCutchen, Mr. J. W. Lang and Paderewsky. Mr. Paderewsky stated that he had written a letter to the Town requesting the use of the same location that he had last year for renting floats, etc.,but that he had been informed that another party is endeavoring to get the same location and he wanted to protest against this as he would like to have this location for the coming season. Mr. Paderewsky was excused and the matter referred to the Police Committee. Chief McCutchen called attention to some of the railing and some of the parking meter pedestals showing signs of -rust on the beach front. Superintendent Reed reported that the work in Memorial Park on the courts, rest rooms, etc.,is about completed and asked what was to be done relative to the pavilion now, located in the park. The Mayor stated that the facilities are now in place so that the children can have the use of them for recreational purposes. Nr. Reed stated that it would cost between six and seven hundred dollars to ,enlarge the pavilion to a size of approximately 70 x 80 feet. It was moved, seconded and passed that the work be authorized. Council discussed the feasibility of leasing a concession stand in the park.
