Noteworthy Incidents
Code Enforcement Efforts
Narrative / Comments
Code Enforcement in conjunction with Public Works continues to check the entire Village for areas
of standing water in regards to Zika virus prevention efforts. They continue to visit all construction
sites, maintaining contact with the contractors to immediately address areas of concern. Miami -
Dade County Mosquito Control continues with the preventative spraying of an organic Larvicide.
A code warning was issued to the Tiffany property when workers were discovered working on the
air conditioning system before the permitted hours. The SunTrust property was issued an
appearance code violation after they failed to complete the cleaning of their exterior within the 30
day warning period issued the previous month.
The Bal Bridge South property was issued a code violation notice when workers were discovered
remodeling the building's elevator without the required permits. All work was stopped and the
Building Department was notified.
The concrete restoration work at The Plaza was halted when it was discovered the required dust
mitigation procedures were not being utilized. The Building Department was notified and had an
inspector respond.

At 6:40 PM a Bal Harbour officer observed work (bulk trash collection) being performed after hours.
Contact was made with on duty supervisor who was advised that all work must cease.

Narrative / Comments
A van owned by Saks Fifth Avenue was parked in the south employee parking area. Upon an
employee returning to the vehicle he discovered that a rear camera lens attached to the vehicles'
hitch had been removed.

Grill at Bal Harbour
Narrative / Comments
The Bal Harbour Police Department and Miami Dade Fire Rescue were dispatched to the Bal
Harbour Grill reference a medical emergency. Upon the arrival of the officers, they found an
unresponsive elderly male on the ground being attended to by off duty medical professionals who
had commenced CPR. Officers deployed their Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR
continued until rescue personnel arrived and took over resuscitation efforts. The victim was
transported to Aventura Hospital; however despite the efforts, the victim did not survive.

Distressed Swimmer
Haulover Inlet
Narrative / Comments
The Miami Dade Police Department received a call of a distressed swimmer near the Haulover
Inlet; Bal Harbour and Indian Creek marine units responded to the area and located the swimmer
who was being assisted by a Miami Dade Lifeguard. The marine patrol officers assisted the
individual out of the water and transported him to the Haulover Marina where he was treated by
Miami Dade Fire Rescue.

Injured Boater
Atlantic Ocean
Narrative / Comments
The Miami -Dade Police Department received a request for medical assistance from a vessel in the
Atlantic Ocean near the 9900 Block of Collins Avenue. The Bal Harbour Police marine unit and
several local marine Units responded and located the vessel. The first responders stabilized the
injured passenger and transported her to the Haulover Marina where she was attended to by Miami -
Dade Fire Rescue personnel. The victim was treated and transported to an area hospital.

Inoperable Jetty Beacon Light

Narrative / Comments
While conducting a mandatory beach check, a Bal Harbour police officer noticed the jetty beacon
warning light was inoperable. Further inspection revealed the wiring harness had somehow
dislodged from the power source. The officer reconnected the harness and the beacon warning
light was reactivated.

The Bal Harbour Police Department was alerted by a resident of a suspicious male sleeping on the
bus bench. Upon the officers arriving they located the individual who advised them that he was
homeless and had fallen asleep as he waited for the bus. The officers offered the individual
assistance and transportation to a shelter; however he declined both offers. He was provided with
homeless assistance literature and left the area voluntarily.

Narrative / Comments
A Public Works employee notified the Bal Harbour Police Department of an odor of marijuana
emanating from the area of the Bal Harbour Park. Upon the arrival of the officers, they discovered
two individuals smoking marijuana under the bridge; however they were in the jurisdiction of the
Town of Surfside. The officers detained the individuals until the arrival of Surfside police officers
who addressed the matter.
