Code Enforcement Effo
Narrative and Comments
Code Enforcement in conjunction with Public Works continues to check the entire village for areas
of standing water in regards to Zika virus prevention efforts. They continue to visit all construction
sites, maintaining contact with the contractors to immediately address areas of concern. Miami -
Dade County Mosquito Control has completed their spraying of the area but will continue to monitor.
A code warning was issued to the Guiseppe Zanotti store when their dumpster was discovered to
be uncovered after business hours.
The code officer issued a code violation to a unit within the Carlton Terrace property when it was
discovered that remodeling work was being conducted without a permit. In coordination with the
Building Department a stop work order was issued for the property.
Additionally, a complaint was received that work without a permit was being performed at a unit
within the Bal Bridge South property. The investigation revealed that the unit had the proper permits
for the work being performed.

Narrative / Comments
The Bal Harbour Police Department received a call reference an overturned personal water craft
that had washed ashore. The Bal Harbour Marine Patrol launched a precautionary grid search for
any possible victims; however Surfside Police soon advised they had reported a personal water
craft lost at sea while being towed during the night and the owner/occupants were fine. The Public
Works Department removed the vessel and placed it on the hardpack. Bal Harbour officers
coordinated with the owner who responded and took possession of his property.

Narrative / Comments
Saks Fifth Avenue loss prevention personnel observed a subject suspiciously placing items into a
bag. The suspect exited the store without paying for the items and was immediately detained.
Once Bal Harbour police officers arrived they discovered the subject had placed the items inside a
homemade anti -detection shoplifting bag. The items stolen totaled $1305.00 and were returned to
Saks Fifth Avenue. The "Booster Bag" was impounded and placed in the Bal Harbour Police
evidence locker. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Miami Dade County Jail.

Narrative / Comments
While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour police officer observed a disabled
vehicle in the roadway creating a potential traffic hazard. The officer stopped and inquired if the
driver needed assistance. The officer assisted the driver in pushing the vehicle to a safe location
until a wrecker arrived. No injuries or significant traffic delays were reported.

Narrative / Comments
A concerned citizen called the Bal Harbour Police Department regarding a suspicious vehicle near
the residential gate. When the officers arrived, they discovered the driver was asleep at the wheel.
The subsequent investigation revealed the driver, a female, was in possession of marijuana and
cocaine. The female who is not a resident of Bal Harbour Village, was arrested and transported to
the Miami Dade County Jail. The illegal narcotics were impounded and placed in the Bal Harbour
Police evidence locker.

A female reported that her purse had been removed from her seat back while she dines at the
restaurant. An area canvass did not produce any witnesses. The detectives reviewed surveillance
footage from the restaurant in the event the incident was recovered.

Narrative / Comments
A concerned citizen called the Bal Harbour police department and reported a suspicious vehicle.
Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle who advised that she dropped off a friend at the
bus stop next to this location. Officers also located the second party who corroborated the events
that took place. The icers conducted criminal history checks and both individuals were cleared.
The individuals a advised against entering onto private property and allowed to leave.
